Hi all, I have a 51' 4 Door Styleline Deluxe and was wondering about some trim pieces. I have seen some 1951 four door Styline Deluxe without the fancy chrome "crown" pieces on the rear fenders, and others with the pieces. Also, some 51's pictures have the "Chevrolet" in black script on the upper grille bar, others not. Is this because they might have been lost thru the years, or did the Korean War force some minor changes in production model options/decorations like these?

During 1951 there were a long list of minor changes to the Chevrolet car. The elemination of the rear fender crown mouldingss was one of the obvious ones. This happened in about March of 1951. After that point they became an accessory that could be installed. A few other items is the seat adjuster knob, rear ash tray knobs ( 2 door) clock knob were changed from chromed metal to plastic. There is a long list of other items including the radiator top tank changed from brass to steel. The steel rusted out in a short time and the tanks had to have a proper copper tank installed. All 1951's had the Chevrolet script on the top grille moulding. After 1952 (which did not have the script) the replacement moulding became the nameless 1952 version. No 1951's were assembled with plain version. In other words the car was wrecked and a new grille was installed. The Korean was was instrumental in the changes. Also the later 1951's did not come with a spare tire.
