It was supposed to smell like pine trees.I never thought that it did.The tube has a felt plug on top that wicks up the fluid.A clip un the side of the tube attaches it to the top of the cowl kick panel.Considering the age of the contents the original smell may have changed-and not for the better.

Can't say much more except every good Chevrolet parts dept. had a card of them on display. The came mounted on a card -a qty. of 12.See 1948 accy. booklet-back of book as they were classified as a service accy. Were available up into the '60s I believe-first listed in the 1941 parts book but may have been around sooner. The liquid was green in color and had a metal cap screwed on to prevent evaporation until put in use.Liquid did not freeze in winter-don't know if it was an alcohol or petrolem base.
