I sold a 48 Convertible to a VCCA member in Switzerland some time back. He is now having trouble with the transmission shifting after a trip to France last summer. I have a couple of spare transmissions that I collected over the years and I offered him one but since I Don't have the car, not sure how to positively identify the correct replacement. One of the ones I have has two different size shift arms. On the other the arms are similar size. I think the one with the small and large shift arm is correct. Any way to positively identify the correct transmission for the vacuum shift '48? It is a hassle to ship a trans to Europe and want to send the correct one. ( car has been shown in the index of the G&D the last few issues). Any help would be appreciated by both he and I.

The 1941-1948 transmissions are the same. One way to ID it is the vacuum shaft cylinder bolts to the transmission case where as the 1940 does not. You sould be able to see the bolt holes.

Also, the 1940 speedometer gear attaches to the rear of the housing as the 41 is mover forward a couple inches. Charlie
