This is the corner of Younge St. from Shuter St. (pronounced Shooter) in Toronto. The Eaton's Centre now stands at the end of Shuter. In the seventies there was a store in this area that advertised on the radio. They ended all of their ads with "...so why not bring your wife on down to Younge and Shuter!!"

In the showroom of the very early Dealership, are the tires "all white", WSW, or don't know?

Speaking of the early Chevrolet's, I wrote in last year wondering why the 100 years of Chev's photos in the home page section is missing photo's of models for several early years, specifically 1913, '14, '18, '23, and '24. Someone said they would try to get the blanks filled in. Perhaps about time. Brewster, perhaps you should take on that task as you have such a great interest in early photo's.

When I originally created that listing (about 5 years BEFORE the 100th anniversary), I also made a rule to myself, that I'd only use MEMBERS cars in the album display.

Over time, there were certain years that just never provided a photo to me. I could have taken (stolen) one from someone else's web page - but I thought that it was important to keep it as a recognition of our member's vehicles.

Now, techology has changed enough, that I'd like to completely change the underlying code. It is fairly labor-intensive to continue to modify it. There are many, many easier ways to post photos now.

Looks like the family that owned this 1937 Cabriolet got some nice pictures of it. I'd love to know the source, or if there are any of it from the front. It can also be seen further up this page.

The 1937 roadster appears to be a Master Deluxe Sports roadster with the master deluxe badge on the grill.
Notice also the two colour wheels , white (cream?) centres with black rims. This was a standard feature of Holden body chevs, which sadly is often overlooked during restoration, Most going for a MONO colour to match the body. Sad really.

Were all the wheels this color regardless of the body color? I have a '37 Holden bodied Tourer that appears to be a very dark blue. Would the wheels be white and black, or dark blue and black, or the body color dark blue alone?
Thanks, Ardie

From the Blog at Hemmings Motor News...

According to NASA, this is the Franklin PS-2 training glider…about to be towed aloft by the specially modified 1937 Chevrolet in front. NACA researchers used the PS-2 in a study of ground effect on a towed glider. Langley flew two of the Franklin gliders in the late 1930s, but the Navy never really found a good use for training gliders.

Hi Ardie. Brewster has alerted me to your post.

The three colour pictures( artist impressions) of 1937 cars in the sales brochure that I have shows a tan colored tourer with the same body colour on the full wheel. An Army green sloper with Army green wheels, and a roadster in a Dark smoke grey colour with the same coloured wheels.

Now this seems to contradict the picture of the roadster shown
with the black rims and the body coloured wheel centres.
But Keep in mind that the artist may not have seen a production car before producing the sales brochure, and may have only seen drawings also.

Now if you go and look at the 1938 sales catalog. The wheels are all black rims an all cars shown EXCEPT ONE The sloper, and body colour on the centres and rims. The colours shown are ,a deep red sedan ,a yellowy cream roadster, the same as 1937 sloper green with full body colour wheels, and a blue 1938 tourer, with blue body colour wheels with black outer rims. The body pin strip is red The top is a beige / tan colour , and the wheels also have
2 red pinstripes on the blue centre just out from the hub cap.

The 1939 sales catalogue has an error in the wheels depicted, again showing 1937-38 wheels . They are Dark blue centre , with black rims, Red centre with black rims , green centre with black rims on a Coolangatta cream roadster, same colour wheels on a green roadster. All show with 2 gold or yellow pinstripes.
An original picture of my 1939 sedan in the early mid 1940's when the car was in original factory paint shows black rims with white (maybe cream) wheel centres on an ivory car. Another 1939 colour was red centres with black rims.

The 1940 sales catalogue then shows a change away from body colour for the wheel centres . Dark blue sedan maybe full blue wheels (maybe black rims) with white pinstripes.
lighter blue sedan ,black rims with maybe body colour centre with white pinstripes. 1940 red sloper with black rims strange pink-cream colour for the wheel centres with red body colour pin stripes.

So after all that I believe that the roadster shown is correct, and the 1937 sales catalog incorrect. I think if we can dig up a few more original 1937 Australian pictures it will give us an answer that is more definite.

I have paint stripped over 20 1939 wheels , and they all seemed to only have black paint on the inside (tyre ) of the rim. so think that all rims at manufacture where painted black, and then finished painted and striped at the various state assembly plants around Australia, which also could add to even more variations.

The cheaper the model , the less paint they would have put on the wheels , hence centre painting only , and leave the rim in the delivered black.

Sorry for the long winded reply everyone.

G'day Jack, I think I have the same brochure, did you notice the artist had an American hub cap on the cover and on all the cars in the brochure? I agree with you as I had an all original 1938 Coupe Utility that had black rims with body coloured centres and the same colour pinstriping as on the body. We'll have to talk about Australian sales brochures sometime.
