FYI,
Permatex No. 2 is the non-hardening type that will seal and hold but also release if you need to take things apart. Some seals will eventually stick and then tear when parts are taken apart.

Were starting to scare me, that you both have been agreeing lately . . .

Don't worry......that won't last long! bigl

Also since i have the early 29 cover that is vented, as the Valve Cover is non Vented. Does this play a factor as well ??

No.

Yeah when you two are in agreement, makes me wonder what is going on. Like my kids when they are in the other room and are quiet ?? make we start wondering who took who out, just to find out they are getting along for a change.

Scarey, but like you said, doesn't last long . . .

I like the idea of Permatex on Both sides, would do a better job of sealing to better the chance of NOT having a leak or weeping oil. Also may better seal across head/ block seam, granted most of the oil will be around/ along the bottom part of the cover.

I would be Using Permatex No 2, Non-Hardening wink

Yep, Permatex 2 is good stuff. And, putting it on both sides will work fine too. It's just harder to remove the push rod cover is all, but with the stuff on both sides it will ensure that you don't have any leaks.

These side covers are intended to be straight and fit tight. Just doesn't seem that they are that straight but have an oilcan twist. Chevrolet even added a strengthening/straightening bar on the bottom but often that has a few waves in it. A few more screws on the bottom would have been better.

Just thinking here, trying not to hurt myself in the process...

Why would I need to remove the Push Rod Cover ?? and How often would I be removing it ??

Also what material is the Gasket made of ?? Best Gasket: Push Rod Gasket 25020E

Gasket is cork. Have some that have not been removed in over 20 years. Only if you have to remove a lifter or lose the nut on the oil line do you have to take off the cover.

So they used felt in the replacement instead of the original cork. It will be much more important to use a sealer with the less flexible material.

Both the valve cover and the push rod cover used cork gaskets.

Thanks Junkyard Dog & Chipper

I will Permatex No 2 both sides to ensure a Seal :)

I noticed that on my Oil Pan Gasket the End Gaskets were Cork, and the Side Rails were Felt.

Valve Cover Gasket I got is Cork.

Originally, the oil pan gaskets were cork too.

Got my Push Rod Cover installed and sealed, letting it sit overnight and set up/ cure. Will take some pictures and post them later.

Spacer seemed to work fine, all new hardware installed as well. Looks good, should be ready to fire up this weekend !!
