Daryl Scott, you have a '47. Does yours have these caps in question????? Sorry for the late reply. I ran out to the garage to check out the radiator support tonight. I never remember seeing the caps there...and sure enough my car doesn't have any. I learn something every day. My '47 is a Kansas City car, and except for what engine and brake work we've done, it hasn't been apart. This is interesting stuff.

What, dick missed his exit off the turnpike? Had to go that far to get turned around!
Oh, I know. Avoiding the toll booth.

I still think it might have been a "management" decision....

No Kevin, that "air" filter is long gone. Strange thing was that the car came with several boxes of parts and "stuff". And lo and behold a correct 1948 air filter with copper mesh filter media was in one of the boxes. That's what is on the aero now. The one in the picture is actually a truck air filter of the era. Really 'cause I see them on eBay ,I believe, and their getting good money for them as "rare" items...I don't believe it was ever used on truck...I believe trucks were all oil bath...I owned a '53 and it was oil bath and I've never seen otherwise and I used to work in the orchards here in California as a fruit truck loader and I never saw otherwise...In fact I have several for sale...Wish I could unload them...There all oil bath. Well, maybe some are a bit different...$20 bucks + postage and they'll belong to to any you who wants them...I'll supply photo's....I have two different kinds...I think both may have been used on '50's truck's/cars at one time...I'm moving and I don't think I'd like to haul them with me...But there worth the $20 bucks...Hardly never see them on eBay...Or I wouldn't have held on to them...

Just checked my '46 Woodie for the support cap screw holes and there are none. My car is an Ionia Body and the car was assembled late in '46 (the frame is stamped 10-22-46) at the Oakland Plant!! Alan

Attention please. In Daryl's picture,s I notice that the "brace" that runs across the uprights at the top is fastened on with what appears to be "pop rivets". The top one would be in the way of the cap. The ones I have seen with the cap, and my '48, that piece is spot welded. Kevin, how is yours fastened.
I am beginning to suspect this was a production change some time in '47. If all who have (or know of) a '47 would post their build date and how the cross piece is attached (weld or rivets), and if you have the caps, we may be able to determine when these things began appearing. Just a thought.

Yeah...my thinking exactly. Must have been a repair at some point. Maybe that is what happened to Daryl's caps, if he ever had them. Did they have "pop" rivets in '47???

Nope...At least none I've ever seen...Looks like very heavy duty "pop" rivets at that...Maybe it's just the washers, making them look big... Maybe the "spot weld" failed...But, I doubt that... I'm thinking different things in different "plants"...Must cause "judges" fits if they even notice at all... Maybe we should be "judges"...Especially YOU...!

Thanks, Bruce...You on a "break"....? Notice how my cables are all taped up... I gotta get that radiator out of there to flush it...That Muratic acid worked great on the forklift...I think I'll do an engine flush first...Then pull the Radiator and do it separate...Let you know how it went...

Course now you have that rubber hose in the way...What do you plan to do about that...?
Remember, you have a '48....
What's your date of manufacture vs registration date...?" If it hasn't been changed....
