CC,

Ok, and I may have spoken too soon. Put my foot in my mouth may be a better term. talk

I was thinking that the 1948 coil would be like the 1941, etc. But, as Gene has pointed out many times, 1948 was a year many changes were made. Accordingly, the coil with the white ceramic bottom may have been changed out for 1948. Yours didn't look like it had the usual little cap on top and the ceramic bottom on it.

I apologize if I pointed out something that was perfectly correct for the year.

Best wishes and get back to work, Agrin

Oh Lord, Charlie may have been a little to quick on the coil thing, but he was in the right area. The coil bracket should be cad/silver, not black. Pretty sure.

I guess you missed the post (15 or so down) "1948 radiator outlet hose". I didn't start it out with "Hey Bruce", trying to be discreet. But, Hey Bruce. Agrin

I know all those "zip ties" make it look tidy, but.

I'm at work too. So let me go back and study those pics a little better when I get a chance.

My friend, not picking on you, you asked. Besides, when you're finished, who can I pick on, Kevin? devil

Thanks Charlie,I have changed the coil a couple of times and they all looked the same, but who knows you, look at something so long you just think its correct...Please speak up about the radiator though,Kevin gave a hint it might not be correct,it was in the car when I purchased it 30 years ago and looks correct except the missing caps on the support...Do I need to put it on the list???

Russell I guess we were typing at the same time...Keep looking my friend

The coil was changed in 1948 as 1947 was the last year to use the eletroloc. The bracket/clamp should be cad. plated.
The 1948 also was the first year to have a pressure cap. was not used again intil the 1950 Power glides and then all the sticks in 1952.cyured is of a newer design. There are ot part /date numbers on the top tank so could be of an off-brand.Zip ties were not invented yet in 1948 so I would have to deduct one point for each one. wink

CC,

I'm glad that Gene straightened me out about the coil. And, pointed out much about the radiator cap, as well. I stand corrected. hood Agrin

I don't know what the instructions were for installing the overflow tank. The radiator relief tube is cut off and I assume that it was done so in conformity to the instruction that came with the unit.

I noted the ties as well but they sure do a good job of keeping the hoses neat. The best the 41 has is just one bracket on the inner fender.

I see you have the separate defroster unit and the under-seat one installed. That makes for a neat space in the passenger leg compartment. In my opinion that is a real plus. dance

Off subject question: What was the A/C number for the 41-47 radiator cap? Anyone.

The overflow tube is cut the proper length. They do reproduce the 7 pound cap as it was used on the 1955-1957 models as well as the 1954's. The instructions on the cap are more simple. I have the original cap from my 1950 but not handy right now.
The correct cap was stamped 501 on its ear so I would assume it was an AC 501 part number. When the cap changed they probably still cataloged it as an AC 501.

Radiator #3121096 back side by inlet, passenger side. Looks right to me.

Radiator cap, going to tread lightly here, 4 pound pressure,'48, sorry Gene. [Linked Image from pic50.picturetrail.com]

Cad plated coil bracket.

Replace one piece radiator outlet hose and clamps. Correct three piece unit.

Replace all heater hose clamps. No worm style allowed.

Ties

Sorry!(want your clock back, inside joke)

Looking great! Presently out of town heading down to Georgia for the Area 9 Meet. I think I have a spare correct, original pressure radiator cap if you don't come up with one. Won't be home until first week of May, so you can let me know later.

OBTW - I think the cowl vent drain hose is way too long. Is that what they sell as a repro? I think the originals only hang down 3-4 inches. Looks like about a foot in the picture.

Hi Dale. Are you in the '48. Take lots of pictures to share with us "shut-ins". Even though it is 4 1/2 hours from me, I can not make it. Have fun.

The drain tube in my pic, hangs down 6". I did cut some off. Check yours again when you have time.

If anyone down here in GA. gives you any trouble, take their name and let me know. wink

Dale is driving to the Area 9 Meet in one of those Chevrolets in which you can only accommodate one passenger.

My traveling companions are driving their '71 Vette, so I figured they'd want to drive faster than the '48 would go, so I'm driving an '85 Vette to see how it fares in the HPOCF certification process. Sorry that you're not able to make it!

CC.

i'm plum lost as to what you're referring to as the radiator support caps.

If you meant the thing that fits around the radiator core (including top and bottom tanks, at bottom and two sides that the four mounting bolts go in, then they are metal and the ends ("ears") are soldered to the top tank at each end.

Charlie computer

BTW: I have an extra NOS connector pipe that goes between the bottom radiator hoses, if you need one. Just pay for the ride. Cheap!

Charlie,

A few of posts up, you'll see the word "hose", colored blue, at the beginning of Ruscar's post......click on it and you will see a description and photo of radiator support caps.

Here's a picture of a radiator support cap. It is installed with one sheet metal screw.

As I said, mine were gone also. I made these by using the ones in the above link as a guide. Look pretty close. Better than that big olé hole!
