The 1950 convertible also does not have a heater. That is a factory car and contains no dealer installed accessories.

On Brewster's 50 Convertible photo, post #267889, did the art guys do a nice job on the shadow on the ground, there on the left over her hat?

I think there's something fishy with that photo... The door panel is wrong as well. I wonder if they edited over the material on it. You should be able to see the chrome and the chorded material over the leather. It looks more like a plain panel out of a special series car...

Tonight I received a photo from one of our fellow Chevy Chat Members, m006840, to post on the thread. Steve says that "I have attached a photo of my grandfather & grandmother (on left) with her sister and husband somewhere in northern New Hampshire. The picture was taken around 1920 or 1921. My mother was born in Nov. of 1921 and I believe the picture was taken prior to her birth. Not sure of the year of the car so perhaps someone could pin that down. Both grandparents drove in the early years and both had chaffeurs licenses. My grandmother always bragged that she never was stranded in her Chevrolet."

Thank you Brewster for your assistance. Perhaps one of the four cyl followers will be able to confirm the year of the car.

My first instinct was that this might be the "big" Chevrolet, the FB, etc. since that many people will fit on the running board, and it just looks slightly large for a 490. But I believe the FB always wore a 6 lug rim, and this car has 5, which makes it a 490 in this era. The curve of the front fender line says 1920 or later, as the 1919 490 still sported a straight line from the top of the front fender crown down to the front end of the running board. The top material does not come forward to the rear-most, rearward leaning top iron (called a "gypsy top," when it does) and that feature was introduced in 1922. Therefore, I can narrow it down to either a 1920 or a 1921 490, but I cannot see anything that allows me to distinguish which of those two years it is. But it is definitely either a 1920 or '21 490.

Would the lack of a bar between the headlights make it a 1921?

I believe neither the 1920 or 1921 490 had a headlight cross bar, so that does not distinguish the year.

Thanks ChevyGuru. I believe their next car was a 28 (open car-have picture but only forward parts visible) and then a 35 cabriolet. Gram did a lot of driving and said she always drove with the top down-summer and winter!

Steve... onto the next mystery! We'll have to see the pic of the '35 cabriolet now, seeing as Chevrolet didn't make one! It'll either be a roadster for '35; or a 1934 or 1936 if it's a cabrio...

Another great photo from Steve tonight! He writes...

I have been unable to locate the picture of my grandmother and the "35 whatever model", but the above photo is I believe of a 28. If not I'm sure someone will identify it accurately. Of particular interest the photo verifies something gram used to tell me and that was she "always drove with the top down, even in winter".

[Linked Image from i150.photobucket.com]

Steve... It's definitely not a '1928. I believe it is a 1930, going by the size of the hubcap on the wire wheel. 1929 used a much smaller cap. It looks to be a roadster as well. It is really a great picture, especially as it goes with the story you've told!

Another small coincidence... it looks to be the same car as I posted above it with the stolen sign!

A 1930 radiator splash apron and the crank hole cover is missing. It must be a 1930.

Thanks again to Brewster for posting. I'm sure that fur collar helped to keep her warm, but I don't think she was going far by the looks of her shoes. Also I think I know the street the car is parked on and she sure had some faith in the parking brake.

PS. I have no idea what she did with the stolen sign!!

The car with the stolen sign is right hand drive and the license plate is mounted on the bumper and has NSW before the numbers and probably stands for New South Wales a state in Australia. The license plate on the 1930 roadster isn't on the bumper.

Hanging out with a 1948 convertible, in 1949.

Porter Chevrolet... Not only is Santa kind of freaky looking and holding a real '54 Chevy, but is the painting on the left kind of weird as well? It kind of looks like this dealership did their own promoting!
