Hello everyone, I was wondering, has any one tried changing the rear oil slinger on a 1939 216 and replaced it with the rolling rear main cap off a 1940 216? The 40 would have a the rear main seal and stop the oil leaking out the back the slingers have problems with. I was just wondering if this can be done.
Thank you for your time.

If properly adusted (the bearing) and all else is as new it should not leak. Both my 1934 and 1939 were drip free. The block is also different in that area for a 1940

The oil slinger is "built in" to the crankshaft - part of the forging. It can not be removed. What you removed is the rear main bearing cap which contains the bearing insert or shell. The shell is incorrect. should be wider and cover the entire surface of the cap and block right up to the return grove.. Also the 1937-1939 insert has another smaller grove and return hole. The crankshaft has to be lowered to install the top shell.

If the engine was rebuilt I am sure they turned the crankshaft to an undersize so you will need to know what under size was used. Iy should be stamped on the back of the shell. Egge Machine could possibly help. Also the bearing will have to be re-adjsted with the shims.
