greetings from a new member. after 26 years of driving and maintaining Model A Fords, we just acquired a nice unrestored original 35 Chevrolet sedan. unfortunately, a doofus previous owner replaced the windshield with plate glass. is there a vendor who supplies correct ready-to-install windshield glass or do I need to have it cut locally from safety glass? we would also be pleased to know your recommendations for good reproduction parts vendors......thanks!

My gut suspicion is that you'll have to have it cut locally. But we can see what some other folks say. One thing that they might want to know is... "do you have a good pattern?" - example with your existing glass?

As for vendors.... here's a start:

Your best bet would be to take it to your friendly glass shop and have them remove the old and then cut and reinstall the new. That is what I did and it was so easy.

Welcome to Chevy Chat.
Is your Chevy a Master or Standard series?
I have a '35 Standard I have owned since 1973. I will try to help with anything I can.

windshield was replaced recently, the rubber seal is nice & soft so I hope I can get the glass out easily for a pattern and re-use the seal.

don't want to drive it to the glass shop or anywhere else until windshield is replaced with safety glass and I get seat belts installed.

the car is a Standard 2-door with 55,000 actual miles. looking forward to getting it into shape for touring but we will NOT be restoring it.

thanks for the help!

I am restoring a 34 Master Sport Sedan; according to the parts manual plate glass was OEM, safety a option. This car had a mixture of the glasses which have been replaced with all new safety glass.

Beginning in 1933 Safety glass was standard for the windshield and vent windows. In 1934 safety glass was an option for all windows. Saftey glass was required for some states and the option covered those states.
1937 was the first year that saftey glass was standard eqipment all around.

this car has factory safety glass in the side windows.

the previous owner put the plate glass windscreen in because the original had become opaque.....
