Wow, thanks for posting a photo of my Fleetmaster Coupe with the "country-club" kit...Alas, I have never seen one that had that "junk on the trunk" before, so I can't help you there...Appears the owner wasn't satisfied with the 'ol 216, either.

I would think if he added the "skirts" with moulding, he would add it to the fenders as well...But, again I've never seen a Fleetmaster WITH moulding...On the skirts or otherwise...

Thanks for sharing, aristech...

Yah,whats up with these guys,It must have been some project to have the wood made for the trunk with no original specs to work with...Lots of bucks for now a custom car...maybe the owners should stop by the site for a lashing or two..Not to many people have seen the country club kit in person and something like this could realy confuse those with little understanding of accuracy...I still carry my documentation with at all times

Yeah would be nice to know what they were thinking when they did this... Talk about being way out in left field. And as far as the skirts go I have no words that could possibly explain them LOL. crazy I really believe in measure twice cut once. Research is key and it is never ending.

Well, the skirts are available with or without moulding...But, you'd expect to see the plain ones (mould-less) on the Fleetmaster and these "moulded" ones on the Fleetline...

Has anyone ever seen ANY moulding come on a Fleetmaster...? I haven't...

That must have been some "chore" to steam the wood to curve, and stay that way for the trunk...Geez

If you go to RM Auctions web site & look under The Charlie Thomas Collection auction for Oct 20th, there are TWO 47 Chevs listed. One is the cpe (lot 154) and the other is a conv (lot 156). Both have the CC kit with trunk wood. The write-up on the conv states Charlie recently added the CC kit so I would guess he did the same with the cpe and also had the trunk wood added to both. They expect the conv to go for $50-70,000 and the cpe for $40-60,000. Look at all the pics of each and you will see some incorrect items other than the wood trim trunk lids. Why did he do it? I suppose because he could afford to do it and liked the looks. I will have to admit that the trunk lid does look nice with the side wood.

I think I could go either way with these...The vinyl looks good and can be replaced, plus it's tough and can last a long time ...The veneer has weather and care issues that concern me.

Only the Fleetline series had the mouldings on the fenders and skirts. Fleetmaster series should never have any of that.

When it comes to the country club wood kit..A correct kit would come with a transfer film not veneer...I have heard more then one statement refering to veneer being use..When I have time I will post the instructions for installing this from the original instalation manual

Interesting to see the Coupe and the Cabriolet with CC wood kits added. The guy is/was obviously a fan of the wood kits. Even more interesting to see the "wood on the trunk." In all my days of being a fan of woodies and going to woodie shows, I've never seen anything like that....on a Chevrolet. It is obviously reminiscent of the '46-'48 Ford/Mercury Sportsman Convertible. They are VERY expensive. Check the results of the RM Auction of the Nick Alexander Woodie Collection sale from August, 2009. A '46 Mercury Sportsman sold for the most money of any car at $368K. And a '48 Ford Sportman sold for 2nd most at $275k.

Much less interesting are the Fleetline Speed Spears on the skirts of the Fleetmaster. I guess they wouldn't look so out of place if they had also been added to the rear fenders, like on the Fleetline models. The way it is, they look very out of place....at least to me.

Does anyone know what these two cars (coupe & Conv) sold for at the RM Auction yesterday (10/20/12)? I tried the RM web site but could not find results.

47 Driver,

The RM 'results site' most current results are Hersey, Oct 11-12.....as you no doubt discovered. I'm sort of talking out my hat here, but it stands to reason it takes a "few days" (maybe a week or so ???) for them to publish results. I guess we'll just have to wait a bit more....

RM Hersey results available here

Hello to the group. Was the country club kit designed for only the '47 and '48 Fleetline Aeros or would the kit also fit the '46? If not, is it b/c the '46 side body is not the same as the following two years?

I believe it will not work on a 46 due to the side body molding. I suppose if you removed the molding strips the CC Kit would fit. Hopefully someone else will chime in to verify this.

Thanks. I was thinking the same thing when I looked at the side of my '46 - What would I do with the molding? Guess I won't be considering the wood kit anymore.

As far as I know it was a 47-48 only installed by Engineering Enterprises. You would need to remove the side molding to apply the wood kit.

I recall chrysler products of that vintage also having wood kits that covered the trunk lid.

Bill.

RM results available for Charlie Thomas Collection from last Sat, Oct 20, 2012....

Lot 154 1947 Fleetmaster Coupe (Est $40-60) sold @ $38,500.
Lot 156 1947 Fleetmaster Conv (Est $50-70) sold @ $35,200.
(I double checked and I did NOT REVERSE the figures.)

Also of possible interest....

Lot 155 1946 T & C Roadster (Conv) sold @ $143.
Lot 159 1947 T & C Four Door Sedan sold @ $55.

If the wood was added to the trunks on the Fleetmasters to "add to the value," it appears to me that idea didn't work!!!

Complete auction results (7 pages) available here.....
