My speedometer needle is black which makes it very hard to see and there is no needle stop at 0mph. Is there a way to paint the needle white or a lighter color so it can be seen better than the black color without removing the needle as I'am afraid that I might mess up the setting and should there be a needle stop at 0mph?
It seems that this speedometer is the original one.

The original needle on a 1940 was not black. Painting the needle will throw off the balance weight.

Sure they sell them...I just saw one in the Fillingstation Catalog...They have clock hands, too.

Just checked the Filling Station catalog and speedometer needles are not listed for 1940 passenger cars.

Same here, 42' and up. Instead of painting white, which Gene said would be too heavy and will throw off the weight, I wonder if I could use a lighter color ( yellow ) "Sharpie" pen to make the needle more visable? one little swipe shouldn't throw off the calibration, would it? Just asking...

You probably should have looked it up first. bigl At any rate, the needle would not be available if it is not being reproduced, or if the Filling Station doesn't have a supplier for the part.

The 1941-1948needle is designed and balanced for a round speedometer.
Find a used 1940 car or 1940-1947 truck speedo and pull the needle off from it.
