Just wondering what the top speeds were for the early Chevys.
Since Bonnie & Clyde chose (stole)a 34 Ford with V8 flathead...was there that much of a difference among the various automakers related to "get-away speed"?
Heard that the 6 cylinder had better take off, but that the flathead had a better top end.

According to Chevrolet proving ground figures the 1934 Ford was good for almost 84 MPH and the Chevrolet Master about 77 MPH. The Ford was faster through the gears as it weighed about 500 pounds less. Also the Ford could run at top speed for mile after mile unless it was a hot day and then it would either overheat or get vapor lock and the Chevrolet owner could not think of doing this. for more than a mile or so. There were not too many 1934 cars that could do an honest 85 MPH. The 1934 Master top speed was about 7 MPH faster than a 1933. and the 1933 Ford was about 5 MPH sllower than a 1934 Ford.
The lighter 1935 and 1936 Chevrolet Standards could match the Ford in accelleration up to about 60 MPH but was still 5 MPH slower in top speed. The Ford produced the max. HP at 3800 Rpm and the Chevrolet at 3200 RPM.
