How is the engine started when the ignition system is not hooked up? I want to see if the engine will start before I put the body back on the chassis and rewire the car. . .

Hi john,

You have to give us just a bit more information. Is the engine on the "bench" as stated or is it in the chassis. Tell us what the current configuration is and we'll give you a hand.

Yeah, It would be nice to know if it is a 1914 thru 1954 or a 1955 thru 78 , a 4,6,or eight cylinder or a GE J 47 or
an Electric Boat Company Ar1654, or maybe a McCoy .35

Hi john,

John has advised me that the engine is in the frame, necessary connections such as water, oil, ect have been made and only thing lacking is the electrical.

Connect the - side of the battery to the chassis/block. Run a wire from the + side of the battery directly to the + connection of the coil. This completes the wiring to produce spark. (John says all other connections have been made). Now you could use a heavy jumper cable and connect it to the + on the starter. When you are assured you have water, oil and gas, connect the jumper cable to the + side of the battery. This will activate the starter and spin the engine. Remove the jumper cable as soon as the engine starts or if it doesn't start within 30 seconds remove the cable and wait until the starter has a chance to cool and try again.

I hope this covers all the bases for you. If not, come on back and we will try again.
