Thought I was seeing things this morning when I came out to find a "flat" tire on the car...The Question is: Is the correct valve stem size TR15...? ( or TR150 ? )

A little surprised to see fillingstation, etc. doesn't carry tire inner tubes...

I got my tubes from Coker Tire,of hand don't know the correct stem size

My search states you need a TR-13

Thanks, that is what I am unsure of before I order...The TR13 appears shorter...Wait, I just measured them, there about an inch long so that must be correct...The TR15's must be for Trucks & Trailers Only...There the long stems...

I used to "patch" all my tubes back in the 'ol days...
...But I had split rims on my truck and I'd get a couple of flats a month, it was out of necessity...I was poor and it was my work truck...

This time I think the tube has probably cracked with age and is un-patchable and beyond it's useful life...

Wow Kevin,I thought the patch thing was reserved for bicycle tubs.....grin....

It was around the valve stem that developed a crack...Changing to my "spare"...I have never actually ever "seen" my spare tire...I know it's there, I know it's got air...But in the almost 20 years I've owned the car I've never needed it...grin

Checking "Geislers", and they say TR13 no longer available...Use TR15...

TR15 appears to look OK...Guess it's the TR150 is the Longer Truck Tube Stem...

Cokers Tire still shows availability,sorry never heard of Geislers except for the racer

I'm looking at Coker, and I'm not sure what your seeing as the correct inner tube...I've dropped them a line to ask them to point out the right one...

My mistake it's "Gemplars"...6x16 TR15 $12.85...Ships from Manufacturer...Sounds like a good price...grin

According to the 1948 passenger car specification chart on steering, wheels and tires a 15 valve stem is called for 6.00-16 through 6.70-15 tires.

No problem. I was wondering the same thing a few months ago and found that little document.
We recently ordered a set from Coker for our 48 and they said 550R16/700R16 TR 15 tubes are correct.
$13 would be a good price. These are $19.

I emailed Coker and they still haven't gotten back to me about deciphering the code/size whatever for those tubes...

Now that I have it, I can check back with "Gemplars"...They sent me an email first thing this morning...I like that, they're the "winners" in my book...

Ok here's the answer from Coker tire

The TR-13 is for a 1/2" openning
The TR-15 is for a 7/16"openning

Hmmmm...The hole in the rim is 5/8, and it appears that the tube stems are 1/2 inch...I imagine a little wiggle room doesn't hurt.

So, I guess either will work...!

Got an email from "Gemplars" tech staff, telling me the manufacturer said it would be OK to run a 15 inch inner tube in a 16 inch tire...!

In fact they recommended it...! W T F

When I inflate my tires there is alot of wiggle when it comes to the the tube stem

Dear friends, it's hard to read in this pic, but mine measures .625 (5/8) no play at all. Only thing is I can't remember where they came from, Coker I think. Only found I paid $14 each. What does tr13/15 stand for?

I would tend to think that's the way it should be...My spare and another tire are like that...But the others are 1/2 inch...What to do, what to do...
I still haven't ordered those tubes yet...

Kevin,when I found the original rims for the 48 I bought tires and tubes from Coker and had Les Schwab intall them...AS I remember the the tubes did not fit and Les Schwab had tubes that fit...It must be all about the rim and stem hole..Maybe you can just do as I did?are you mounting your own tire?You need to get back on the road my friend

Received an email from K-Morrow Tire this morning...He assures me he has the correct inner tubes...
He lists them for "farm equipment only" to keep folks from installing them in radial tires...
He insists his TR15 valve stems are 5/8" for older vehicles...
Price is $13.50 + 9.95 shipping...

Those Coker "folks" still don't return emails after two days...To heck with them %#%*@'S...

I've looked locally for tubes, O'Reily's formerly Kragens lists them for $34.95...whoa

Chef, Mr. Morrow did mention that there are other tubes with smaller valve stems ( TR13 )..They will work...But he says you should use "inserts" around the stem for proper fit, which he supply's with the tubes "free"...

I Think these are good folks ( K-Morrow Tire Supply ) to do business with...They were quick to respond to my emails, offered a wealth of information...Plus additional shipping per inner-tube is only $2 bucks each...Brought my purchase of three 6.00x16 TR15 inner tubes ( 5/8 valve stem ) to just under $55 dollars....

I misspoke when I called them "inserts"...K Morrow Tire Supply refers to them as "bushings"...
They are offered with tubes to insure proper fitment of inner tube stem to rim hole size...Guess it's important...The one rim and tube on my car that didn't have this bushing is the tube that went sphhpppp...Might want to check your hole (s) grin

Oh, by the way, it's the TR150 stem that's like 3 1/2 inch's long...

...It must have been 3 P.M. Central time on Thursday, when I ordered the tubes from Morrow Tire Supply...It's been 48 hours ( it's Saturday ) and the tubes are in my hands...Sent USPS Priority... 550/600 x 16 W/ 5/8 valve stem, Made by AIR-LOC...in Korea...

Kane Morrow advised me that NO tire tubes are made in good old US of A any longer...And that "heavy duty" tubes no longer exist either ( for auto's anyway )...These tubes feel pretty darn heavy to me...

I'm one happy customer...Kevin
