O.K. I made the call...Says all the windows have all been replaced with tinted glass, new rubber, too.
Vehicle must have been stored in the winter...what little rust found has been repaired...
Doesn't know if it has been repainted or not. A "Bodyman" has buffed out the car and paint is darn near thru in spots...
Doesn't know if motor has ever been rebuilt...this car has been thru a "few" hands, in the past few years...
Steers like an old car...Brakes pull-it a little to the right...
The old Carter floods a little...Sound familiar...?
Rubber on the running boards are gone/repainted...
Does the horn work...? He wasn't sure....
Kevin47...I noticed the bad condition of the runingboards. Believe it or not 1938 Chevy's had tinted glass! it is not as dark as it is today but never the less factory tinted glass. Brakes are easy to repair..When I got my 38 the brakes pulled to the right front, I found out that the left front wheel cylinder was froze and not working...Old cars are "OLD" deal with it, or buy a new one...That's what I did many years ago. But look at me now, I am back laying under this old car doing the same thing I swore I would never do again back when I finely could afford a new car....It's in our blood ..I GUESS.... Good Luck...ED
I was only wrong one time in my life so far. But that time I was right, and only thought I was wrong....ED
I've got a "pull" to the left issue going on with my '47 at the moment...Believe the brakes could use some adjustment ( I've had it apart ) but think the real problem though, in my case, is the sloppy steering box...Going out to work on it now...Wish me Luck...! lol

Don't tighten it up to much. I've heard a bunch of stories about the steering LOCKING UP after someone ADJUSTED it to tight. These old cars are not the cars you'd want to be in a wreck with. My old coupe had GREASE everywhere on the back brakes where the rear axle seals failed. When I stopped ,it still tried to lock the wheels when I took off again. What a mess. New brakes, bearings, seals and a long time cleaning that mess up. I hope you don't have grease issues trying to lock one wheel.
'Clear' auto glass has a slight green tint to it. I was forced to replace the windshield in my '38 because the original got broken when it was removed for paint. The glass had a noticeable green cast as did the 'clear' replacement glass. I asked the glass shop about the green cast and was told all 'clear' auto class is that way.

If this car goes for $10500 (reserve) that will be a good deal for someone.
I think I'm going to go in the garage and set in the front seat of my old car and cry. I am in real trouble valuewise..grin I guess I'll be giving it to the grandkids and they can trade in for the latest phone...smiles

Kevin......Adjustment has nothing to do with brakes "Pulling one way or the other".....Remember hydraulic pressure is equal That's why they went to hydraulic brake's in the first place if brakes are pulling it is a hydraulic problem, worn out shoes or contaminated shoes (grease on linings etc)...Good Luck...ED

Kevin....You said..."The pull is only noticeable when the road is wet" Well what does that tell you????...It's easier for a wheel to slide, when it locks up, when it has the least resistance, like a wet road. Check if the wheel cylinders are working properly and the brake shoes are not compromised.... like oil or grease on them...Keep the faith,If it was made by man it can be fixed by man......Good Luck...ED BTW...King pins have nothing to do with the brakes.

Steve....If You start the car while siting in it in the garage and crying, make sure the car windows are all rolled down and garage door is open....We will miss you otherwise.....ED

My master has the switch built into the dome light. The Master Deluxe ,on a coupe, has a switch located bewtween the door glass and the smaller glass, about half way up. I've seen them on ebay.
The above photo is not a coupe, but still shows the switch on a 2-door 1938 Master Deluxe
A good looking interior!!! and talking about chrome bezels for the dome light switch I was wondering if anyone ever had their window moldings chromed.( a picture should be welcome ). Jianis

Kevin,
Generally, but not necessarily in the instant case, you can read the above as follows:
a. "Little" rust = "Lots" of rust. "Little" is a relative term.
b. The engine has probably been either rebuilt or replaced with something. The car could have been through a lot of hands and been repainted and the repaint is worn out.
c. Brakes pull probably pull a "lot" to the right because the wheel cylinder is leaking and the shoes are shot or the left brake pistons are stuck.
d. Carburetor may flood a lot.
e. Rubber on door gone is accurate. No comment.
f. Horn doesn't work. Count on it. Steve wins the bet.
Charlie
BTW: I've never found that adding fluid would cause the car to stand any higher. I think it is only an illusion. Like when changing the oil makes the engine seem to run better.
BTW2: Steve, the add-on stuff doesn't make your car anything more than what it basically was from the factory. Visualize what lipstick can do for a pig.
BTW3: Don't y-all ignore the fact that this car you're talking about is just another 38. You can't even do any "sporting" in the things owing to that dad-gone gear shifter in the way! Have some added pride and vision. There are still a few 41 SD coupes, station wagons and convertibles out there that are much better engineered and eye appealing. Are too! :
That would add still yet add ANOTHER problem in a long list of know problems with old chevys..Vacuum assisted shift (all that linkage ,hoses, valves, pins, cannisters, shifters, leaks, etc.) did I miss anything?
I might be getting carried away a little bit....smiles
Still waiting on the UPDATED photos of the 41 Convert. TicTocTicTocTicToc
Oh well, I didn't win the auction...Out bid in the last few seconds by a thousand...
Went for $12,100...A few bidders showed up in the last seconds...
I got work to do on the '47, better git to it...!
Charlie, I only added fluid to the one knee and drove around the block...after that's when it looked like that side appeared a little higher ( about an inch )...I'll go out now and fill the other side...Maybe it'll fix the brakes, too...!lol

Charlie....I rather be staked out on a ant hill in the desert than say this ...But..I have to agree with you on this, being I am a honorable man.
But the part about the "lipstick on a pig" statement (by the way terminology used only in North Carolina,Alaska and other backwoods places were the smartest person in town is some fat bellied sheriff who's name is Otis...(But he cant spell it) I have to differ with you...I would call all the chrome washboard looking stuff pasted on a 41 "lipstick" Amen. Every 41 I have ever seen (I had a 41 Deluxe 5 passenger coupe in 1958) But I was young and dumb than ...But I am better now. It did not take much to please me back then when I did not have a artistic eye for classic Art Deco design.
BTW...Your comment, referring to the floor shift lever, and the art of "sporting", for me this obstruction was a gift from on high. I had become a legend in the area because of a accident that happened while "sporting" while on a date and my friend and partner happened to slip and land on the lever in question. She later told her friends of her experience and it resulted in me becoming a much in demand local hero and got many a wink from the local females.......ED

Yes ... Even though I have that or more in it, I should have sold it. I'm seeing great deals on all kinds of cars One of the few cars that is actually going up is the Prowler. They have jumped $5-6K in the last year. It's strange, no one wants a Mopar until they get hard find, then they go sky high. Barrett-Jackson is getting big bucks for Charger,Cuda,Challeger,GTX,Hemi anything, every auction. A Hemi roadrunner brought over $400k last year. As far as older antiques go ..Plymouths don't bring near as much as Ford or Chevy in most cases.
That means I've made a poor investment. It's like playing the stock market or playing poker.. You have to know when to hold um and know when to fold um.
I no longer think of old cars as an investment but rather a "hobby"...Helps me keep my sanity...grin
Kevin
I double that!!! I just should not give lot more as the actual value of the car but as time goes values change too. Mostly if you count all the costs you should rarely get better off. For me ( ) the real value of an old car / motor is the fun you have with it and that cant be replaced with money Jianis

Steve...How about those snazzy little pick up trucks that Chevy came out with a few years ago (I cant remember what they were called )...They are sharp looking. I have not seen one of them in a long time. I almost bought one of them to just store it away...I bet they go for BIG BUCKS now....ED
