Hello folks! I have a question I am hoping you guys can help me out with. I am more of a vintage bike guy but I have been getting into some car stuff. I am pretty clueless so please take it easy on me!!! In my constant quest to find cool old stuff I have stumbled upon a Chevy Spinner Steering wheel. The man wants $250 for it. Can anyone help me with a value for this wheel? I don't want to overpay, my buddy has been looking for one of these wheels. He says they are fairly rare, I may go buy it but like I said I am clueless about the vintage chevy stuff. Sorry I didn't have my camera handy or I would have pictures. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Never heard of a "spinner" steering wheel. Maybe someone can school me as well.

1940 and 1941 both had accessory "Spinner" steering wheels. They are big differences between the two. They are fairly desirable items. Not for everyone because both years had nice production steering wheels for the special deluxe versions.

a. The 1940 had a fixed spinner at the 9:00 o'clock or 270 degree position.

b. The 1941 spinner was positional for about 40 degrees, from about the 80 to 200 degree positions.

c. The horn blowing cap was different.

d. The rim was different.

There were other differences as well.

The 41 is a bit more expensive to obtain than the 40 in similar condition.

$250 would be about right for a 40 that needed complete restoration. Maybe a little more for a 41.

There are several shops that restore these wheels. I shipped mine (41) to Kurd's (or something like that) in California. They did a great job, chrome and all for about $700.

Good luck with it.

Tiny,
This will show the 41. Scroll down to it.

BTW: The restorer I sent mine to was Koch, I think.

$250 is a steal if it's in good shape.

Wow thanks for the information! Your replies are very much appreciated. This is a really good forum. I think I will head back to the guys place in the next few days and take some pictures. My memory does not serve me so well but I think it was in decent shape.
