JCP's29,and others, This is great info. I'll check things out tomorrow. I have a feeling I will have to replace both drums once I want to really drive the car. Both are warped. I haven't been able to find anyone who makes drums for the 33 Master. From the information I've been gathering, The 33,34,35 were all pretty different cars. And I think because of this fact, it isn't practical for after market folks to reproduce parts. If I'm wrong please feel free to correct me. Don

Sure , it's a given you wouldn't want to remove more material than necessary to clean-up and it's easier to take a lighter cut on steel than cast iron...and as far as brake lining are concerned I'd look in ( Don's ) area for a place such as the one I use , It's called B & A Friction Materials Inc., their more than happy to help with all your brake lining needs (they can do amazing things !) including "arcing" the shoes , too. Bring your drums with ya !

Don I worked in a auto brake specialist workshop for several years. We never machined any light vehicle brake drum beyond .060" (heavy vehicles up to .125) over factory standard and always machined both sides to the same measurement. Admittedly these were cast drums not pressed so by previous comments would not machine (or grind) a pressed drum more than .030" oversize as they are a thinner material to start with. This will make things difficult but brakes and steering are the most important parts and I dont recommend short cuts in either. Tony

Tonyw, Thanks for the input from your experience. It is sound advice. What I would like to find is good replacement drums for my car. I'm going to use my drums on the car for now so I can continue the restoration. I plan on replacing the drums before the car hits the road. The front brake are the ones that do most of the work. So it's important that they work well.
