One good source for wire is Y n Z (909) 798-1498. Understand your desire to make your own harness, however if you purchased the harness already assembled you would have a lot of time left over to do some other tasks on your DB 34 (That is Dodge Brothers isn't it?)

On the plug wires. Always been black to my knowledge.

DB means it's a 1934 1/2 ton truck. All 1934 models start with "D". DA is a Master passenger car, DC is a Standard passenger car. The ton and a half's had a different series starting with P. It's easy to remember as D is the 4th letter of the alphabet and it was built in the 4th year of the 1930's. Likewise the '35's all start with E, 1936's F and so forth. According to my parts book the series continued at least until 1940 with the "K" series.
As for wiring, I believe Ray is right. Buy yourself a complete harness and be done with it. Mine came from Y and Z's also. It was easy to install, not too expensive, and every connection is numbered and cut to length and it fits well.

Answer to second question-

The 6 cylinder Chevrolet NEVER used colored spark plug wires. They were black lacquer covered cloth until 1953.

Coachhill, the comment about the DB was a "leg puller".

Another source of wiring, either complete harnesses or wire and connectors, etc to make your own is Rhode Island Wiring, PO Box 434, West Kingston, Rhode Island 02892. 401-789-1955. They have four catalogs 39 and earlier American, 40-59 American, Foreign Vehicles, and Supplies. I have not purchased yet but you may want to compare YnZ and Rhode Island offerings.

The old Wiryjoe wiring harnesses looked more original than the Y n Z.....if you can find one.On passenger cars they only covered under hood and dash, but these are the areas where the wires can be seen.

Rhode Island and Y & Z products are essentially the same. They communicate and cooperate between the two companies.

Regarding Chipper's reply, if they are both selling the same products, probably one of them manufactures for both and both sell. Similar to Steele and Filling Station on rubber parts. do you know what their "communication and collaboration" entails, Chipper?? I only ask as their prices seem to be different for the same products and they do not present their options in a similar way: Add-ons for accesory passenger side tail lights, for example.

Each has their own pricing but if one decides to make or have something made then the other does not and sells for the other. They each have their own overhead and make harnesses in their own shop. The relationship between Steele and FS is manufacturer (that also sells direct) and retailer. FS does the same for the steering column bushings that I have made.

I found YnZ's a terrific outfit to deal with. They took the time to listen and advise and then produced a quality product.

Sometimes their web page is down...just keep trying.
