I am adjusting the "worm adjustment plug" in my 28 AB and I am a bit confused by the inner threaded member and the role it plays. Basically, there are two threaded members at the end of the steeringbox, the outer (worm adjustment plug) is threaded into the steeringbox housing and the inner member is threaded into the outer member. Both have spanner-wrench turning details. According to all references, the out member is the worm (gear) adjustment plug. So what what is the inner threaded member? The outer adjustment plug is locked in place by a lock-collar, integral to the housing, so it doesn't make sense that it is a jam-nut, so what and how is it adjusted?

Hello Only the outer plug adjust the bearing and end play. The inner plug tight/squeeze a felt ring around the rods and protect oil coming out from the housing. An excellent tool. Very useful. I would bet you could sell some of those if you made them up. I will take the 1st one.
