I have a 36 Chev Coupe that has the quarter windows. How can I tell whether this car is a Standard or Deluxe. This is my first Chevy. also I read in the shop Manual that the standard and deluxe have two different transmissions, does one have syncro and other not. Thanks for helping.

Check the Job Number that is on your Fisher Body cowl tag. "361017" is a 1936 Master five window coupe, and "361217" is a 1936 Standard five window coupe. :cool2: laugh laugh laugh laugh laugh

Hey Mr. moderator dude. Would you like to move this to the 1933-36 forum instead?

All business coupes have 5 windows-Master or Standard. The Master has three dials if front of the driver on the dash-the Standard has two.The Master had a 3 window rumble seat coupe. The only thing that was used in both a 1936 Master and Standard was the engine. The Master had a version of the first syncromesh trans. that was introduced in 1932.The Standard had a lighter non-syncro trans-used in 1933-36 Standards with minor changes. The Standard mechanical parts were of "lighter construction" for the most part.1937s have an all new trans. for all models-was used up into the 60s with some changes.

The Standard transmission was a constant mesh trans.-It dosen't need to be double clutched but just shifted slowly. Also has a lot of problems with worn shifter forks etc.-which fit '36 Stds. only. Gene
