I don't have to ask, I already know!

This has been a very informative post. I have totally ruled out the option of a fuel pump. If it was supposed to be there, Chevrolet would have put it there.

I got the trans out and clutch disassembled tonight, going to the shop tomorrow to be reconditioned. Should have it back together and working on the fuel problem right after getting the clutch back from the shop. I'll be back then...

I don't know if anyone is still following this post at all, but I wanted to post an update anyway.

I got the clutch back and installed and got everything else hooked up/put back and in the process of priming the vacuum pump I dug up my emails from Chipper and made sure I had the float linkage right on the vacuum pump, and I didn't, so I corrected that (is that why it was running out of gas? YES!), started her up and let it run and run and run and run!!!!!!!!! Finally, success! Now the true test...stepped the clutch (first time ever) and tried to put it in gear...and it slipped right in!!! Let up on the clutch slowly and she started moving backwards on her own!!!

Sorry for all the excitement, but this day has been a long time coming, so much so that I have named this truck "Two Steps Back"!

It is now so gratifying to think that I can hop in any time, pull the ignition switch, start her up and go! All that hard work now seems more than worth it, and if it wasn't for all the help I received from everyone on here, I wouldn't have gotten to where I am with the truck. Thank you all once again for all your help and knowledge!

You got it spot on Tyler.

If chevrolet had of wanted fuel pumps instead of vac tanks. they would either have been a standard fitting or made available as a factory retro fit in the 30's.

Set em up right in the first place, look after them, make sure you keep a clean tank or as I do, a pre vac tank filter, you will be a happy camper.

Cheers

Ray

I have documented my 45 years with a 1928 Chev Tourer, from 1973 to 2018, and regulary add other items that I hope are of interest to others. Your comments are most welcome. The story of the Red Chev can be viewed at http://my28chev.blogspot.com/

Gidday Ray and bang on the money once again...

Vac tank was the first real thing I pulled to bits, learnt about the working of after a fair bit of head scratching as I just didn't know what the hell or how the hell it worked.

Yes it was all gummed up inside after 40 years of no use as my dad had bypassed the whole fuel system and just used to hang a 4litre container off the windscreen frame by rope and gravity fed the carby when he would start it up every 10 years or so....

I didn't know what a Vac Tank was but after some internet searches and a little poking around here and there I got it all working well and apart from a little shut off tap leak it is running like a dream on old "Monty the Chev"

Keep it original!!

Cheers
Grant
