I know there are lots of threads covering this topic but I still would like a bit of advice on the body number. I have read that the number is stamped into the seat frame on some cars and mine has a number on the LHS passenger side as is holden bodied. The number is 0150. Would this be a body number for a '28 chev? All the wood seems to be replaced except this rather dried out and withered piece.

All the Holden bodied Chevs from 1926 when GMA was formed had a small 2 1/2" x 1 1/2" aluminium plate nailed to the wooden rail on the LHS just forward of the front seat and just inside the sill panel, parallel to the edge of the sill panel. Your car (assuming its a tourer} would have had "28 121 nat tr" as the series and a body number and job number on it. They also has another plate the same size with a ridge across the middle that was just in front of the ID plate. It showed codes for paint and trim numbers. I have a couple of spares of 28 ID plates if you need one.
They also had a CHEVROLET ID TAG about 4" x 2" (black on tin) on the RHS of the side of the front seat frame, this tag showed the Chevrolet ID number starting with 28AB
Not all Chev 28's had a chassis number but those that did had it in two totally different positions, on the top of the chassis rail alongside the petrol tank filler neck, and others had it stamped right in the middle of the LHS of the dash. This one had a < on the lHS side of the number and a > on the RHS. This style is the more common.

Thanks Chris
I do have a number stamped on the dash. It starts off quite promanent then fades >07771N
I think that last caractor is an N and cant find any sign of the finishing < (without scatching off my shinny new paint anyway) Does this seem like the right number of characters or are there more hidden beneath the paint?
Also do you know of any offical looking document saying this is the body number so I can argue the point with the Department of Transport when I apply for rego?
