since this is kind of a closed car, should the floor mat be rubber or carpet?

All 31's used a rubber floor mat. There is one for a closed car and then also one for an open car. Also you will need the rumble seat rubber mat.

The first Chevrolet to have carpet on the front floor was the 1950 Bel Air.

Just so you don't get confused, your cabriolet is a closed car, not an open car even though it is a convertible. The roadster and the phaeton are open cars because they don't have roll up windows.

Where can I buy a front rubber floor mat for my 1931 Chevrolet 4-door Independence sedan? Car presently has some home made carpet in front and rear. I assume rubber floor mat in front and carpet in rear?

Thanks, Fred

Thanks for the tip - I just ordered a front rubber mat and a catalog from The Filling Station and am looking forward to locating other parts needed in the future.

I have some other GM cars - 1917 Buick Touring, 1939 LaSalle Convertible, 1954 Buick Special Riviera 2dr. HT, 1957 Buick Riviera 2dr. HT, a pair of 1955 Pontiac Safari Wagons (one original and one modified) and a 1966 Cadillac DeVille convertible. All are in our car museum at work in Canfield, Ohio. See www.tpcarcollection.com

That is a nice collection of cars that you have on display. With all the advertising you should consider joining the VCCA to get our monthly magazine and a lot of free advertising every month. Welcome to the best Chevy chat site in the world. The VCCA and the chat site are all a great bunch of guys putting Chevy's back together as they came off the line. Enjoy the site and come back often.
