Has anyone used the Pro Style Vinyl&Leather repair kit made by Permatex. I have a small tare in a armrest made of leather and I would like to repair it. Maybe with one of those kits or dose someone know of a good way to repair it. The color of the material is Tan. Thanks for the help.

Andys29, I don't recall who put it out but many years ago I purchased a vinyl repair kit from J.C. Whitney. It had several small containers of colored goop, some small patches with different grain, and what looked like a soldering iron only it had a surface about an inch square. To mend a tear, you put some goop on it, layed an appropriately grained patch on it (one that most closely matched your vinyl), and then heated it for a while. After the goop cooled, you lifted the patch and voila, if you did it right, you had a patch that was hardly visible. As I recall, this worked very well and wore well. While I can't vouch for any particular product, in the passing years I imagine improvement has been made to these patching kits. You might also want to talk with restaurant owners who have vinyl seats or booths to see if they know of someone local who does that kind of work if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself. Funny how things "jog" the ole memory. Now that you mention it Stuart, I recall a "patch kit" exactly like you mention. I recall using it a time or maybe two in the early 1960's on the interior of my first car, a 55 Chev two door post. Probably purchased at the old Howard's Auto Supply. An old line, independent auto parts store Portland folks will remember from the old days on SE Grand Ave.
As I recall, it actually worked pretty well. No idea of the name, brand, etc. Probably no matter. Not likely it's even around these days.
BUT, something similar might be available these days. Maybe worth Andy's time to check around in his google box and see if he can't come up with something. Or, maybe the Permatex kit will work just fine.......
Bill.
