No, it was the black gook that comes with the rebuild kit. Bad news is that there is no longer a supplier for the lead covered packing. I have received two rings of the graphite packing, but have not installed them yet. That is the closest you will ever come to melting an engine and have it pull through. All the plug wires were melted into one glob inside the wire guide over the top of the engine.

I have used the graphite rope type packing for many years. It is ~3/16" wide and came in a roll. It was intended for water pump and steam valve packing. Seems to work well once it is compacted and seated.
