Is the Filling Station Blue # H-5 engine enamel the correct color for a 1954-235-125 HP with Powerglide? Thanks for helping.

Hi Jim,

I see you've posted this question a couple of times recently. I'm dismayed - probably not as much as you are - that nobody has confirmed that FS part number is the right color for your nice '54.

Like me, you've probably read many posts in here about the B.H. paint being the "wrong" color and that the Filling Station and, I believe, Chevs of the 40's has the "right" color.

I'm guessing nobody has answered yet who's actually used the product you mention. Frankly, I "presume" it's 100% correct from all the previous posts over the months and years. But I'd hang in there a bit more til somebody who's actually used the H-5 part number you mention answers your question.

(Maybe this will bring the matter to somebody's attention for ya..... I hope so.....)

Bill.

Yes the H-5 is considered to be the right paint for your 1954 Powerglide engine. The paint that Bill42 is referring to is the paint for engines for 216 & 235 engines prior to 1954, It is almost charcoal blue paint, the paint Bill Hirsch auto products sold for the pre-1953 and the 1953 standard shift engines is a light gray, close to battleship gray which is considered to be incorrect by VCCA standards. We see a lot of 216 and pre 1954 engines painted the light gray color because Bill Hirsch auto products sold it for the correct paint for 40 years. I don't know what he is selling now, but the paint considered correct by VCCA ia the dark blue gray paint sold by The Filling Station as FS-359 is considered correct for 216 and 235 engines for Chevrolet cars up thru 1952 and 216 and 235 engines in trucks for 1929 up thru 1962.

Thanks Mr Mack. I'll order some today. I know about the Gray paint. I've had a 31 since 1961 and for many years was getting the gray paint mixed and selling it at Central Meets. This is the first time I've done painting on our 54. Iblew a head gasket between 4 - 5. While I have it apart I night as well do some cleaning and painting. I've got until the Eastern Six Cylinder Tour to geter done.
