I was driving my 36 FC over the week end and everything was going fine until we were on the way home and started climbing the mountains. About ½ way up it began to buck and miss like it was running out of gas. I backed off on the accelerator and it stopped, but I began loosing speed. After letting the string of cars behind me pass, I finally made it to the top of the mountain. It was a hot day, (98 degrees) and I don’t have a temperature gauge, so I don’t know how hot the engine was.
Any ideas?

Could the fuel have begun to vaporize in the lines? I know a fellow who had a 32 or 33 roadster that occasionally had that problem. Hosing the fuel lines down with a water bottle seemed to temporarily solve the problem.

I would bet on the vapor lock. The fuel in the gas line leading up to the fuel pump plus the fuel in the fuel pump begins to boil and turn into vapor. Pouring cold water over the pump and line will help. When driving keep the RPM's up and try to keep moving. And eletric fuel pump back at the tank will eleminate the problem. That way even if the fuel boils it keeps being pushed along up to the caburetor.

It would be a good idea to install a water temp gauge just to be sure you don't have an overheating issue. My 1936 FC started to overheat because while running it would lose water from the water pump packing. I'm glad I had a temperature gauge!

as i live in florida it gets hot . my 36 stanard used to vapor lock . some body told me to wrap the gas line in tinfoil easy chep and at the show you can take tinfoil off.it seems like it helped as it do not do it any any more. my 36 had no tempture gauge.i put one on with a clip. at show unclip and hide under dash. my 36 run about 180 as long as i am moveing. smitty
