My old 38 coupe has pretty good hubcaps but the lettering needs touching up as far as paint. I know the chevrolet word is in red and the stripes around it are in blue, but are the three rings around the outside edge of the cap painted? If so..what color?

See the three rings around the edge? Are they painted?

Wrong year Bill. wink I don't believe the rings were painted. There was no trace of paint in the rings on my originals but they were pretty rough. None in my repop hub caps either.

THANKS. I couldn't get a clear photo off the web. Mine don't look like they have ever been painted, but most of the paint was gone on the lettering also. I couldn't tell. THANKS AGAIN.

My hubcaps are chrome. I see chrome and stainless types in catalogs. Which came as orginal equipment? Did the deluxe models have better hubcaps?

The "rings" were not painted. The original hub caps had a steel base. Then a chrome plated brass shell was crimped over the base. All models used the same caps. Generally speaking the stainless steel is not as "clear" as chrome.
During the year in 1952 Chevrolet changed from chrome to stainless due to the Korean was problems. The stainless never rust, chip, crack or peel.
