Just finishing up on my restoration so it is time to fine tune the body aligment or the sagging door issue. My hinges seem to be tight but both doors seem to sag about 1/4" and trird shimming the body at the forward body mount but this did not make a difference. Also the drivers door does not follow the curve of the body and protrudes at the top and botom almost 3/8" but is correct in the center. Can anyone help?

Hi,

You may be able to solve both problems with one application. You will have to remove the door panels if they are not already off and place a wire with a turnbuckle diagonally across the door. Secure it well on each end. The top of the wire will be attached to the top of the door (opening not across the window) at the hinge side. Tighten the turnbuckle until you have raised the back side by 1/4" >.

Thank You and just a few questions left, one end attached just below the window on the hinge side and the other end attached to the lower rear portion of the door? And are these left in place?

Yes, once you get a good fit, leave it installed.

Hi,
I am brand new at this stuff so I am reading everything I can find on the 27 Coach. It just so happens that I read about this subject yesterday in the 1928 "Chevrolet Repair Manual" on Page 243.

It says to place a shim under the rear corner of the body at the rear body mounting bolt on the side that has the sagging door in order to fix door misalignment on the coach. Please note that on the next page, page 244, the book gives instruction on where to place shims for the other body styles (sedans, landaus, coupes and cabrolets) which are different from the coach.

I was going to follow the book's instruction on my new to me coach. Now, I am wondering if the book instructions do not hold up now that our cars are much, much older than they were in 1928, when the book was published.

I am wondering this because many years ago (I am 69 and 11 months old) I learned the following:
"Learn from the mistakes of others because you cannot make them all yourself."

Long live Chevrolet!!!
Thanks for any advice,
Bob D.

Hey Bob,
Guess you made it back home ok. Glad to find out you will be joining us on the Chama tour.

If the back of a door is low, adding a shim as near as the front door post (with hinges) will raise the opposite side of the door once all body bolts are tight. If you add shim at the front of the cowl it will lower the back of the front door. It is all fairly logical.

Hi Chip,

Yep, looking foreward to the tour even if we will have to do it in Bev's 52. At least it is a Chevy, but not a 4 banger.

Thanks for the body alignment info.

Long live Chevys,
Bob D.

Bob, Thanks for the information and I shimmed the forward mount and not the rear and this is a two door
