I watched an episode of "Overhaulin".

Wyotech, the mechanical / body school in Wyoming, received, as a donation from an individual, an unrestored, unmolested, 1956 Bel Air 4 dr sedan. I believe it was Crocus Yellow and Black. It was in running condition, every nut, bolt and light bulb appeared to be on the car. The body and interior were in "fair to good PLUS original" condition. Certainly it needed to be redone, inside and out, but it looked good NOW for 50 plus years old .... plus it was a driver. I think it was a 265, as opposed to a 235 ....I do know it was a PG.

Overhaulin stages a "theft", in order to obtain the car ....the "overhaulin" team drove it away from the guys ( head honcho at Wyotech ) driveway, it was a car you don't normally ever see, in that condition.

The donor to Wyotech had one request of Wyotech, for his donation .....the car had to be restored. It certainly was ....

First, they cut the top off, then threw away the doors, then cut off the 1/4 panels, etc. By now I can hardly watch.

The '56' ended up being a 2 door roadster, no provision for a top, windshield was made from a '51' Merc back glass, etc.

It just overwhelmed me to see this clean old Bel Air, which survived in fine shape for 50 plus years to end up like this.

Was the Wyotech honcho "suprised" when he saw what Overhaulin had done to the newly acquired '56' ? You betcha !

Just had to write about it ...what a loss ! flush

It made me sick looking at the picture, but, because there is disdain for the four door sedans in the vintage market, many would just say"It's only a four door, who cares".In my opinion, the hobby has created this trend because no one really wants the 4 door sedans anyway.I had a guy looking over my 210 4 door at a car cruise and he had redone a few cars to original condition(nicely done,I might add).He said he would never attempt to do a 4 door because the amount of money he put into the restoration would never be reclaimed at selling time. Also for whatever reason, the 4 door cars have a stigma attatched to them in that they just aren't cool....
So keep that in mind when you see a 4 door being destroyed for its parts.
Imagine 50 years from now,the rarest of the 53 Chevrolets will be a 150 4 door sedan. How many do you think are going to be here by then????

Just my 2 cents!!
