When did Chevrolet start using a valve cover? I noticed in the 33 mid-west meet that a Chevrolet four cylinder engine pictured didn't have one. I would think they were used on all sixes but honestly don't know if a four ever had them or not.

The 490 series, and the 23-24 Superior, did not have valve covers. The first car in that line to have a cover was the 1925 and it had two, one for #1 & #2 cylinders, and one for the #3 & #4 cylinders. The Model D and D5 had covers.

A very original 1919 model FB here has a valve cover as does a 1915 Model H. I didn't look at the casting date on the head. Maybe a later head, or an after market valve cover.

Yes, all the FBs had valve covers as did the H.

I agree with Ray on the FB and H models but the Model T did not have a valve cover even though it used a FA or FB engine. Go figure!

The valve cover must have been a luxury item.Maybe part of the engine/exterior decor option.HaHa.Included bright trim on the lights and hood latches and padding on the seat.
