VCCA Home Forums TECHNICAL - 1945 AND NEWER 1949-1954 The famous Chevy truck visor

Grandad had a '52 (or so he belived) half ton pickup that had a visor. Now, I believe it was Gene who said the visors were not available until '53. I have a visor (very expensive) but I have been reluctant to install it on my '49 Chevy 4400 because I don't know if there ever were ANY 4400s with visors. I did put one of Ray's radios in it because Grandad's pickup had a radio. (The cabs are the same...)

Was there even ONE Chevy 4400 with a visor that came out of the factory?

Lee, I don't think any of the Chevrolet trucks or cars left the factory with an outside windshield visor, unless you count the visor on the body style prior to a 33.

I am glad you got your lady a nice telescope. I have had one for years. A Meade 4500 reflector with a nice equatorialmount(old timey). I have thought about building a small movable top 8 sided observatory in the yard. I'll probably need to shoot out a couple of nearby "security lights". Light polution is always a problem in some places, but not too bad out here in the boonies. I think that the theives really like those that the power companies sell to farmers and ranchers, that way they don't need a flashlight to steal your riding mower or boats and trailers. Some places they will steal your stock trailer and then fill it with your heifers! :vcca:

#1 - No vehicles evercame from the factory with a sun visor. A sun visor was a dealer installed accessory.

#2 - 1953 was the first year that CHEVROLET offered a visor as an accessory.

#3 - The 1952 could have had the visory installed in 1953 after Chevrolet offered it as accessory.

#4 - The 1952 truck may have had one of the dozen or so aftermarket visors available in 1952.

#5 - The parts truck I first drove at the dealership I worked at in 1950, a new 1950 pick-up had a sun visor....made by the Fulton Company, which was located only 3 blocks from the dealership.

#6 - If the 1949 truck was mine and I liked sun visors it would be bolted to the truck.

1931 was the last year for an outside factory sunvisor.

Thank you, Gene! Now I understand the visor situation. And thanks for giving me permission to install it. I do like the visor and this first of (hopefully) many Chevy trucks for me is more a memorial to my lovely grandfather. But, as I said, I get the most satisfaction and fun from using it. She's a working girl and I need her to do the things she does. I've spent most of this 4-day weekend with her down in the creek bed loading gravel for my driveway, which has turned to mud because of the traffic. I'm going to build a "man house" up on the hill with stones I gather up and the Chevy truck will be indespensible in that project. I'll toss the stones of appropriate size into the bed, drive them up the hill and dump them out where I'll be using them.

Grandad's truck had a visor, and so shall mine.

I liked the visors on trucks much more than on cars. They were handy on dump trucks to catch over spill from a FEL.
