Do a search on "RediRad" here on Chevy Chatter II and you will find lots of previous discussions on this product.

I installed a 12v one in my '66 Corvette. It allows me to play my IPOD through the radio. Before that, the transmitter that I was using wasn't strong enough to overcome the local radio stations. This is a common problem that is well discussed on all of the IPOD transmitter product forums.

But with RediRad, it interrupts the radio signal between the antenna and the radio. That totally eliminates the bleed-through from the local stations.

Bottom line, it works great. It keeps your original radio fully intact.

I really like the redi-rad.I have the 6 volt model, however,my 53s' radio usually lasts just a few months, then quits.I am getting tired of sending it out for repair......I started with a deluxe PB AM radio and that lasted 3 months, now I put in a non PB one that had just been gone through and that lasted 3 months as well.I'm frustrated with the whole situation and I am beginning to understand why some owners go to a 12 volt system.Riding around with no tunes sux, but,I'm just not ready to plunk down $40.00 to ship it somewhere to be fix for another $40.00,it's getting rediculous.Any suggestions?

If you are only paying $40 to "fix" your 53 radios, maybe that is what is wrong! I wouldn't think that a complete restoration of a 56 year old six volt radio, (AM) could be properly done for less than $150 plus shipping. There is a lot of wire, condensers and a good solid state power supply to replace the vibrator, speaker and making the changes to make the radio servicable aren't cheap.
Get it done right and quit shipping it all over, plus if you are like me it isn't a day at the beach pulling it and then putting it back in. I hate working under the dash!
I am not any kind of a radio tech, but i have had a couple of the 51-54 radios restored. One of them required replacing the tuning and volume shafts and dial.

Both radios were restored by an authorized Chev-radio repairman. They lasted a total of six months. All work was done by a professional.BTW shipping is 40.00,there is no way I will pay $150.00 again to have these two units gone through, considering I have spent almost $400.00 on them already.

Check out the modern 12 v.radios over at J.C. Whitney or Walmart and get a 6 volt to a 12 volt 10 amp DC power supply.

I have a friend that uses a nice boom box and carries a 12 volt booster battery behind the front seat and it works good.

I used to drive and fly in some risky places for a living and never got used to listening to music...I always thought I had enough to listen to. It became a lifetime habit. I just listen to the car and my 2 way and what is going on around me. I put the radios in the car because they always came with one.

BTW I haven't seen very many authorized Chev-radio repair men out at a swap meet or under any of the bushes around this neck of the woods! If I had of sent my radio to one of them I would expect them to stand behind their work.....and shipping, did you say $40 for shipping? what the heck did you ship it on a Rolls Royce powered P-51?

Shipping a heavy, all tube radio across the country from NY to CA with insurance is 40.00 UPS.That's the long and short of it,no P51 Mustang with the Rolls or P38 with the Allisons either.I have had UPS and other carriers damage goods in the past, unfotunately, insurance is manditory for me.No way to negotiate shipping costs.....

Yes, that is true. The last one I shipped I filled half a box with aerosol foam dropped in a Walmart bag to keep the foam off the radio, then formed the radio to the wet foam under the walmart bag, laid another walmart bag over the radio and up the sides of the box filled the box with foam. it worked well ended up with a nice form fitted box with two halves semi ridgid foam. I shipped it in one of the post office one price boxes.
The first one I shipped UPS and just packed newspaper around it, it arrived in Ohio with both shafts broken off. I had another radio for the 53 without push buttons The repair shop used the manual shafts on the PB radio.
Just kidding about that P-51!

I haven't determined wether the redi-rad damaged my radios or not, but, getting them repaired has become a problem.I just can't swing $100.00+ to get them repaired every few months...
I know that vibration killed my PB radio, took out the vibrator when my parking brake was released and slipped out of my hand. The non PB unit just stopped working, again,I think it's the vibrator, not completely sure, but,I am so disgusted right now with the radio situation, that I may just leave the non working radio in the dash and forget about it.I can find other worth-while uses for the money I've wasted this year alone.
I would call tech support for redi-rad and talk with the owner,he seems to be reasonable to deal with.

I have had a few issues with my 6 volt REDIRAD but my 12 volt works great! Matt has been great at trying to repair it and find a solution. I guess it has something to do with spikes from generator cars I guess I am willing to work with him to sort out the problem because when it works I love it!
