Need some pics of a completed trunk,it all seems straight forward but I don't understand the burlap used for the latch indent on the floor and the burlap used for the spare tire well...The info comes from the fabric specs in the Hampton coach order form.I will not be using their kit and will have it done locally...I also need to know what fabric is used for the trunk sides and back panels???Is it the same as the inside panels??

From looking in the parts book and my memory the sides and back panel has a stiff cardboard lining. There was no burlap in the latch well and tire well.
Don't believe everything HC sells is correct. Hope some one with an original can reply.

The trunk lining cardboard was what I would call a medium brown, has raw edges with no stitching or fabric involved.

I bought a trunk kit for my 41 Coupe from HC. The kit was pre-shaped to fit-sort of!

IE: The back seat panel was different because it fit two ways. And no one at HC could tell me how to distinguish the Top from the Bottom {?}. The side panels did NOT line up with the pre-positioned "clips" that hold it in place. curse curse But some hidden velcro did the trick. blush

Word of caution when installing the side panels, be careful NOT to bend the material, to much bending will crease the material.

An upholstery shop told me the same Brown material is avail at some upholstery supply Co.'s. I never checked this out.

Good luck,

chef-chevy,
I have an original 48 Aero. Chevgene is correct the trunk panels are a stiff brown cardboard with no finished edges. The original ones in my chevy are sort of leather grained. There is no burlap anywhere.

I don't remember seeing that but I will look as soon as I get a chance and let you know what I see. Mine still has the original rubber trunk mat and the cardboard side panels. It was my grandmother's car and I inherited it. It has 72,000 miles on it and is original except that the lower gray color was repainted, the top blue is still original paint. It is "decent" but needs to be redone to be a show car.

Hi Mike,
Sorry but the car is not for sale. I have a '33 coupe, a '37 sedan, and the '48. I plan to keep them as long as I'm around and my 2 sons are car nuts too so I hope they remain in the family for quite some time. They are all drivers in parade condition but not competion condition. The 2 older ones I restored in 1980 and the '48 is unrestored but decent. If I ever retire I hope to restore it too, but I'm 65 and not sure when or if I will retire. LOL
Keep the old chevy's rolling!

Hi Bruce,

Always interesting to read your posts about that '48 beauty you have....

The key word is "appears."

As Gene mentioned, the sales brochure(s) just aren't reliable "reference" pieces. As explained to me some years ago, the brochures use "artists renditions" of the car, the interior, etc, etc. That's the case for all years, not just 48. Too bad they aren't reliable; but that's the facts.....

With door or trunk weather strip the open part of the V always goes to the outside.

Is there any percautions I should be aware of when I re install the piece??The leak is at the top middle

I have also had problems with the wing window rubber..As above is there any thing with postioning of the rubber and or the window to assure a good seal..I believe I have a small gap at the bottom of both where they rotate
