I removed the oil distributor valve from my '37 Master Coupe (GB) to clean and inspect it. Other than a lot of sludge everything looks fine.

Is there anything special about the 2 gaskets I need? One is the round valve gasket (837637) and the other is the body gasket (838398) to mount the valve to the side of the engine. I am planning to make them out of 1/64" thick gasket material.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Rusty

I don't know the advantages or disadvantages of making your own, but if you want commercial ones, you might try suppliers like Chevs of the 40's, The Filling Station, or Tim Tygart's Obsolete Chevrolet Parts Company. All three have online catalogs where you can check to see if they have the gaskets you need.

The gasket paper will work fine but the hard paper/material type would be best.

Thanks Gene and Charlie.

Charlie,

Thanks for the tip on Tim Tygart's Obsolete Chevy parts. Yes, he does have these 2 gaskets. I had checked Chev of the 40's and Filling Station. Neither has them. I'm trying to get things together this weekend so I will probably make them for right now. I'll order them the next time I place an order with Tygart's.

Gene,

Thanks for the suggestion on the gasket material. I bought the fiber type and am not completely satisfied with it. It actually seems to compress so much that it tends to squeeze out when you tighten things up.

Thanks for the advice,

Rusty

Rusty,

Glad I could help. I'll never pretend to be the level of technical expert that many of the guys on this site are. They are incredible and I really depend on them. However, I've had lots of experience locating sometimes hard to find parts for my car.
