In the low speed position the back of the switch should be the hottest since it's diverting more current from the fan motor and dissipating it as heat. Unless I don't understand, the current drain is the same any time the switch is "on". The difference is how much of that current is allowed to go to the fan motor and how much is bled off as heat.

Sure would have been nice to have written my reply as well as Tiny. Anyway it always amazes me how fast a battery can be run down by a light bulb, radio or other item that will not deflect the ammeter. Guys, seriously, I think it is those GGs that are at work again.

Joe,

If there is a light inside of my switch, I don't have a clue how to access it.

My switch appears to be a "genuine" part. It has a "H" on the front of the knob and on the support bracket is says "off, Hi, med, low."

On mine, the selector knob pull's right off, after a little tug, but the light bulb socket,is inside the switch body. Mine Has "HEAT" on the front of the knob.

Joe,

I gave as hard a tug as I felt was not going to break anything and it did not come off. Mine just has a big "H" on it. I wil get a photo later to send to you.

Check for a set screw in the knob, holding it on to the bulb socket. Also, if yours is dark brown in color, it my not have a bulb in it. Mine is a light beige in color.

Okay, I did go out and attack the switch again. I did get the brown knob off and inside there is a #51 bulb.

I hope that you can find this bulb. I use #44, #46, #47, ect in my radio repairs for dial lights and I know that you can get some of these bulbs from Radio Shack. The #51 is a small bulb with a bayonet mount and it must be 6 volt.

Good luck,

Rich

Many thanks guys! I tried both the #51 and #55s, and they were both to small. Have the switch off, and will take it to NAPA and or Radio Shack.

Joe,

It is indeed a small bulb, but it does fit down inside of the center of the knob, at least on mine.

Well, after having a (SENIOR MOMENT),and running to the NAPA stores here, which neither one could find the right bulb, I went to the Radio Shack! They have the bulb! It's not the same number as the #51, but it's the idenical twin. And YES, the #51 does fit right in there too!!!!
