Any clue why the truck below, now listed on eBay, has its fuel tank in a forward location (below the seat?) Mine and all others I can recall seeing have the tank aft of the rear axle. See the extra photo link on the eBay page for more photos. Just curious.

The early 1936 cabs had the tank suspended under the seat. The late 1936 had the tank straped to the under body.
The late were the most common.

Gene,

So all of the high cabs must have had the underseat tank, since this is a low cab. Right?

Yes, I should have mentioned it . The late 1 1/2 ton had the tank under the seat.

I have a late 36(low cab) and it has the tank under the seat, just like the 37. Could it be the late 36 trucks had the seat tank?

Bud,

My 36 truck--with the gas tank in the rear--is lacking a serial number plate so I don't know its exact "birthdate", but the engine was cast on May 13, 1936--so I suspect it was built in June or July at Oakland. What's the date of yours?

The 1936 Engineering Features states; for late 1936 trucks;
The fuel tank on the 1 1/2 ton trucks is mounted under the seat. On 1/2 ton trucks the tank is mounted to the rear of the chassis as heretofore.

Wally, I don't know the date on my truck, the id plate is gone and it has a 42 engine in it. I thought mine was a late low cab, but guess I am wrong, it must be an early low cab. Gene has the best data for sure. 36 pickups could be high cab, low cab and 2 versions of low cab,,,wow, a busy year at chevrolet.
