For anyone curious about the great 50s cars in Havana, Cuba, I've posted an album on Flicker. I was fortunate to be able to travel there on a legal trip in March. About half of the cars are Chevys, though others are included also. Sure wish I could have brought a few back with me. No, this isn't a car show...just normal everyday life in Havana. Cars from a time when the US and Cuba liked each other. i watches a documentary on these cars a while ago and the skill and ingenuity the fine mechanics of Cuba have developed in either custom machining or adapting other models parts to keep these running. Truly amazing.

Thanks jozeppi,

It's great to see those cars still being used as everyday cars.

I wonder, did you talk to any of the owners? I'd bet they have great stories along with the car.

Unfortunately, my Spanish is not very good. But I did learn that most of these cars are used as taxis, some registered some unregistered. If you're a tourist, you can get someone to drive you all day for a reasonable rate. Also, most of the engines have been converted to diesel, since that's about all that's available. Many of the hood ornaments have been lost or stolen over the years, so there's a real "art" in reconstructing creative designs.

those are really eye opening pics. it's obvious many of the owners are taking great pride in their rides.
