Hollander Interchange lists that the '59 to '62 and the '63 and '64 Full Size Spindles have different part numbers, even tho they will interchange with each other. I'm trying to find out if there is a way to identify the difference between the two. Does anyone out there know if there are any part or casting numbers on them and/or any date codes on them?

Any info would be appreciated.

The difference is in the center top stud for the brakes that threads into the spindle. To be safe use the bolt that was in the spindle. In the book published in 1970 they list the spindle for 1959-64. Earlier books list the 1959-62 seperatly. The forging number on the 1963-64 was 3828580. I can list the 1959-62 tomorrow.

Bill,
The Chevrolet Parts Book 1966 list's them as the same number 3828580, the 63&64 vette uses the same. Do you think hollander was refering to the Corvette spindles? I just went downstairs and found looked at set from a 60 and set from a 63 and they look the same (real dirty)
John
I just checked the 61 book and the forging is 3441830 for the 59-62. mmmmmm

Looks like another case of a small change in a part that became the replacement for the earlier part. It is very common for later parts to be used as replacements. That is why it is critical to check several sources from a number of years in an attempt to understand what originally was used or done.

Appreciate all the replies.

John, Hollander also states the number is the same as the one Gene posted (3754168). I guess the only way to tell is by the large top center bolt. Sure wish the spindles had numbers on them, but I guess we are lucky enough to have numbers on other parts as much as we do.

Thanks again.

Good thing I threw the book out tonight, must have been wrong. Shame it was a nice 1933-1961 parts book, No good if it has the wrong numbers that Chevrolet printed. My 1933 to 1960 book has 3754168 number listed, strange.

Mike, Hollander calls them forging numbers.

John, It may be possible that the forging number and part number may be different. That old book you have may be correct after all.

The spindles are forged. Thats why it is called a forging number. Appears the same as a casting number. The part number is not the same. If you clean up the rust you will find the number on the forging.
