I came across two used 3 speed trannys that appear to be from the part numbers to be from a 1937 Master(?). They each have three lines of numbers. They each have casting numbers of 590822 in the first line. One is numbered GM1 on the second line and E23 on a third line. It has a serial number SG43969. The other tranny has GM2 on the second line and on the third D79. Its S/N is SK70567. I think the serial numbers indicate they were made in the Saginaw plant.
Does anyone know what the numbers in the 2nd and 3rd lines represent? Are they 1937 models?
Thanks, 37Blue

The 590822 case was used on all 1937-39 passenger cars and the transmissions were the same. It will not be for a truck.

Thanks Chevgene. I was certain these would not be usable for Old Blue (37 1/2ton). Any idea on what the other numbers mean?

All of the internal parts could be used in your 1937 1/2 ton truck except the main shaft (rear shaft)...working on the numbers. Your case will be different also.

The 1938 car serial number began with SE and MV
The 1939 began with SG and MY
S for Signaw and M for Muncie.
Do not have 1937.
The D79 would = April 7, 1939
The E23 would = May 2, 1943 or 1953....would be my guess may be a replacement case or transmission.????
