Ok!
So you decide to buy a holiday retreat in Portugal.
You buy an old farmhouse with some land.
It's been empty for 15 years!
You buy it!
The barn is padlocked & the doors welded together!
Out comes the disc cutter....And.......

my wife and I are preparing to board one of our American barges and float on down to the restaurant for lunch...... if it floats. plenty of room for our feet and our elbows aren't touching.

Seems the one writing the captions doesn't know a Chevy from a Chrysler.

I know little of it, was sent to me by a client.
I did wonder about th "Barges"!

It seems to be an urban myth, one story is it was a New Yorker who bought the farm.
I think the more plausible is that a classical car collector welded the doors up in the 80's when the barn was full, opened it up to catalog the collection, hired a photographer to record the cars.
Another urban myth.....Like American cars being barges!
When we all know they're tanks!! :) :) :)

Honest! I love you guys! luv2

Great find, Kipper. But really, who would want these? I mean they are terribly dirty and dusty and there are even a few tires that need mending.
Oh, and my take on the 'barges' is that the owner had bought so much Continental stuff that he needed the American stuff as reliable transportation. :)

Maybe the dudes in Tulsa that buried the Belvadere should have put it in a barn instead?

You're right again, Skippy.

Somebody sent that 'barn find' to me months ago. I was very suspicious of the whole thing then. And still am. I'm thinking it's a bunch of who-ee.....

Shag me!

All you need is a tow rope & tractor, with a couple of "yanks" it'll end up over there with the rest of our foreign junk.......

Ahh yes, more good humored banter...

"Oversexed, overpaid and over here."

(From the www, I see that's a) Comic line, making fun of the US Army in Europe in WWII. There was a good humoured banter between the GIs that were stationed in Britain prior to and during WWII and the British citizenry. The GIs had a come-back - calling the Brits, "underpaid, undersexed and under Eisenhower".

KS,

So maybe the joke's on me. Maybe I did miss something. Maybe you were saying a couple of tugs ("yanks") and YOUR (foreign) stuff would be over here (USofA).

I never was much good at telling funnies. Maybe not so good at reading them either!?!?!

Although I always figure if a guy needs to be told the bit, maybe the bit ain't so good?!??!?

Oh well.....

Bill.

Regardless of even fewer Americans (who do understand) or possibly, more Americans (who don't understand), I guess barn finds are still fun.

This particular one just sort of strikes me as a bit on the odd side....

Found this out about the fake barn find. If it sounds too good to be true, it usually is.

My second post pointed out that it was a false find & indeed was a collectors stash.

I posted this thread for general interest as it was sent to me.
some guy's found it interesting, barn find or not!

apologies to everyone else for posting it!

barn find.... collectors stash, makes little difference. I applaud the persons responsible. better stored in the dry than rotting in a field or being crushed. I'm not sure how the majority of Europeans feel concerning old cars. what I took exception to was the pics, especially the one of the 71 Cutlass, captioned "American barges." I have had an up close and personal relationship with a documented 71 Cutlass SX for more than 15 years. perhaps I'm taking that wrong, but I equate barges with being big, slow, ugly, only suitable for freight hauling. whether for financial gain or love of the hobby I commend anyone involved in preserving these rolling pieces of history.
