Still looking for a set of Commercial license plates for my 53 1/2 ton. I talked to a person this morning and he wanted $1,000 bucks for a set of them and I thought to myself that those blue and yellow one I have on my truck right now don't look that bad. Anybody out there with a connection to license plates? Please let me know. 1951 is the year I am looking for. Thanks and have a good day...Oscar

oscar, I have purchased a few sets of vintage, year-of-manufacture ca commercial plates through ebay...they were quite reasonable, and shouldn't be too hard to find for your truck...just keep watching and something should turn up for the right price...especially for a single, as opposed to a matched pair... epi

EPI,in Calif. we have to have the complete set to register our trucks and if I don't buy a set of commercial plates and put passenger plates on it I will be the joke at all the car meets. The 51 Calif. plates for a passenger go for about $400.00 to 600.00 buck and the commercial plates go for about $900.00 to 1.000 bucks. I guess that year is a very hot plate. Also 1947 plates go for about the same price. I have bid on ebay numerous times and it seem the collectors have a system to out bid me every time. I'm frustrated on trying to buy a set on ebay. I am trying to contact a collector and buy a set from him. Thanks...Oscar :( :tired:

Kepi, when I called DMV in Sacramento they said in order to change my plates, I need two 51 (YOM) commercial plates in order to change them from the previous blue and yellow plates that are on my 53 truck now. I also need to have the little metal 53 tag and the plates must be clear. I will call them back today and make sure they didn't make a mistake and I hope they did. I'm to the point now to just say screw it and keep the ugly blue and yellow plates that are on it. I will let you know what they say. I might need to go to your DMV and get this done. Thanks for the help and also thank you Louis...Oscar  Here is a link on the Calif. plates I need. http://reviews.ebay.com/DMV-clear-California-License-Plates-1951-1956-1963-YOM_W0QQugidZ10000000000961771?ssPageName=BUYGD:CAT:-1:LISTINGS:1

Hey Oscar: "Chevrolet's" name is actually Kepi, not Epi. You use the "K" on the icon before his signature to get "Kepi". :)

Thanks dog, I changed it and sorry Kepi. Hey JYD, maybe I should get my truck registered in Oregon where I can find 53 plates and then bring it back to California. This is a real hassle trying to get original plates for this girl. Thanks...Oscar :cool2:

oscar, I wouldn't think the rules would be different between our year trucks, but with our kooky state government, you never know... it's been a couple years, but as I recall, the form that the fellow used to register my plate even had a line for them to write "1" or "2," for the number of plates...they check it for authenticity, or at least what they think is real (a few years back when I registered my '30, I used a pair of "pneumatic commercial" plates, which the guy thought wasn't real)...they photocopy the plate for their records, give you an add on sticker plate & sticker, and voila!.. anyway, don't dispair...it'll all work out... epi

That is great news Oscar, it has been a long search; let us know what happens.I just got my YOM plate for my '57 back from being approved by the state DMV, cost me $21.60 for the approval process. Fairly simple process here in Florida (only 1 plate needed); it's great to have a YOM plate on the rear of the car now.

In Ohio, you can run YOM plates as long as you have Historical plates for your car. All we have to do is photo copy the plate and complete a state form. Then they send back a new registration form for both the Historical Plates and the YOM plates. There is no additional cost.
I found it interesting that Ohio also only requires 1 plate to be on the vehicle since Ohio only issued 1 plate in 1953, but pairs every other year since 1908.
I am now only missing a 1908 plate to have every year of Ohio plate hanging on the wall of the garage. I'll need to hit to lottery before my wife will let me spend that much on 1 plate. ha ha.
Enjoy your plates!
Chris
