Ron, have you tried spitting inside the case, then giving it a good whop with your fist? Sometimes there isn't anything hard about fixing electronic devices! it worked for Andy Griffin in No time for Sargents.

Ron unless your dealing with a high-end lab grade scope like a Tektronics that Mack was talking about earlier, most service grade scopes are pretty simple and basic. Over 90% of the time, like all older electronics devices, they are plagued with capacitors that have gone bad. The first thing I do with any older piece of electronic gear is replace the caps. I'm not exaggerating, there are only a handful in there, generally six or eight and a filter cap and this will usually cure most of the problems. Cost is usually not more than $8 of $10. What ever you do don't go inside and start twisting adjustments unless you have a schematic and understand what it says. Once you have it out of alignment it can be a bi%#h to get back in.
Oh, and that condenser, $6.49 at NAPA last Saturday. And it's capacitance if anyone cares is .22uf, I checked three of them, all new.

If the condensor is .22uf it is standard capacitance used in most ignition systems including 12v. The hardest bit to get is mounting and connections to suit the application.
If you can get the correct mounting you can adapt the wire connection from the old 1 onto the new.
