My wife and I put 5 Chevys in our yard (and her WS6 Trans Am) and talked to our neighbors and passersby from a safe distance as they walked their dogs or rode their bikes. 6 more cars showed up. What a great day. Stay safe. My pictures are too large to attach. I'll resize some and post them.

Here some photos. Friends brought their cars. Even neighborhood kids brought their cars. The sign on the garage says Social Distancing Car Show.

Man that looks great. Awesome idea!
What is the green stuff on the front yards? Getting tired of white yards and cold here.
Dragged home 20 bags of glass grit this morning for blasting as I can see us being ordered to stay home sometime and want to prep some body panels. Spent the weekend working in an 800,000 sq' building by myself. Very eerie....

Awesome idea, thanks for sharing. Gov. DeWine just ordered shelter in place for Ohio. It's a pain but suppose it has to be done. April 18th there are about 4 shows in the Buckeye state..............wonder what the chances are they will go forward as planned ??? Ugh. I wonder since outdoor auto shows are different in the fact that there are not hundreds of people sitting next to one another, as in a movie theater or similar, they would go on ?? All up in the air. Stay safe everyone....hopefully we will all get through this .

Here in South Florida our car show season is November to April or so. My calendar has some car event on every weekend for 4 months from shows to picnics, etc. Well as we all know that came to a screeching halt. My wife and I noticed people are still walking their dogs and kids are riding their bikes. We decided to have a Social Distancing Car Show. We made signs reminding everyone to keep a safe distance. We have 9 old Chevys. We put 6 in our yard (didn't have enough drivers for the other 3) and 6 friends brought their cars. We had 50 to 100 people stop by and talk and take pictures. We intended to spend a couple of hours. We started at 8:00 am and finished just before dark. A great day for all. Now to answer your question that green stuff is called grass. Also, in case you've never seen them before, those funny little pants are called "shorts." The high yesterday was mid-80s.

Inspired by olsarge (see above), I held a small show last Sunday in my front yard. It was a lot of fun!

Not many people showed up, but enough to be festive.

I displayed:

  • My two old trucks, Lurch and Justin (click on the links in my signature for more info)
  • An old motorbike that I built last summer, named the BS Flyer (for Briggs and Stratton, of course!). The vision for this bike was to build something with parts that would've been laying around in the 1950's. The frame is a 1947 Simplex, the gas tank is a 1953 Simplex, 1923 bicycle handlebars, a 1920's bike horn, and a Briggs lawnmower engine.
  • A custom minibike chopper that I built 53 years ago when I was in Junior High School. The bike was originally small, but a friend smashed it into a wall, destroying the front end. I rebuilt it into a chopper using galvanized water pipes! It's been sitting in my shed for many years and just a couple of weeks ago I resurrected it. Truly a death machine with its 6 hp Tecumseh engine, VERY squirrely steering and not-so-hot brake on the rear wheel.
  • My art car. For more about this piece, see Dean's art project

Some other folks brought their vehicles too.

  • My son Josh brought 'Stu', his 1951 Studebaker pickup with a Chevy 350, a Blazer transaxle, and Jeep axles.
  • Lou MacMillan (VCCA Chat nickname 'Lou') brought his Honda Station wagon with an electric motor.
  • Andy Shyers (San Leandro High School Auto Shop Teacher) brought his 1951 Dodge M37 military pickup

It was a great diversion from the everyday shelter-in-place-and-don't-see-anyone.

Cheers, Dean

That is absolutely awesome! I don't think I've ever inspired anyone before.

Ok, for my next inspiration on June 20th we're doing a classic car parade through a senior residential community. Then, on July 10th (Collector Car Appreciation Day) we're doing a Social Distancing Car Show at a local church. I'll post pictures of these events. Use your imagination and STAY SAFE!
