Inspired by olsarge (see above), I held a small show last Sunday in my front yard. It was a lot of fun!
Not many people showed up, but enough to be festive.
I displayed:
- My two old trucks, Lurch and Justin (click on the links in my signature for more info)
- An old motorbike that I built last summer, named the BS Flyer (for Briggs and Stratton, of course!). The vision for this bike was to build something with parts that would've been laying around in the 1950's. The frame is a 1947 Simplex, the gas tank is a 1953 Simplex, 1923 bicycle handlebars, a 1920's bike horn, and a Briggs lawnmower engine.
- A custom minibike chopper that I built 53 years ago when I was in Junior High School. The bike was originally small, but a friend smashed it into a wall, destroying the front end. I rebuilt it into a chopper using galvanized water pipes! It's been sitting in my shed for many years and just a couple of weeks ago I resurrected it. Truly a death machine with its 6 hp Tecumseh engine, VERY squirrely steering and not-so-hot brake on the rear wheel.
- My art car. For more about this piece, see Dean's art project
Some other folks brought their vehicles too.
- My son Josh brought 'Stu', his 1951 Studebaker pickup with a Chevy 350, a Blazer transaxle, and Jeep axles.
- Lou MacMillan (VCCA Chat nickname 'Lou') brought his Honda Station wagon with an electric motor.
- Andy Shyers (San Leandro High School Auto Shop Teacher) brought his 1951 Dodge M37 military pickup
It was a great diversion from the everyday shelter-in-place-and-don't-see-anyone.
Cheers, Dean
