JUNKYARD DOG ADVENTURE!
September 13th, through September 16th - 2007

1. This year the Junkyard Dog Adventure will be held on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, September 13th through September 16th. The various “collection” tours will be Thursday through Saturday, and those that wish to stay over until Sunday can attend the annual Caveman Vintage Car Club Swap Meet that will be held at the Josephine County Fairgrounds in Grants Pass, Oregon.

2. Due to the popularity of the previous Junkyard Dog Adventures, this year the number of those attending will be limited to 30 dudes (remember, this is a guy only thing). We are doing this for one major reason……..a smaller group is easier to handle and the owners of the various collections and businesses that we visit are less intimidated with a smaller group. We will take those that sign up in numerical order, and when we reach a total of 30 guys the tour will be closed. However, we will include three more on the list as a backup in case someone drops out. If you are part of the group, and for some reason you cannot attend, please give us advance notice so that someone else can take your place. Also, we ask that those attending plan on staying for all three days of the adventure (Thursday through Saturday) since we are limiting the number attending to 30.

3. Closing date for sign-up will be July 1, 2007.

4. To sign up please do so by direct email. Just a note in an envelope will be fine indicating that you will be attending. The mailing address is as follows:

Junkyard Dog Adventure
161 Rockingham Circle
Eagle Point, Oregon 97524

5. The tours and the dedicated times of the tours are subject to change without notice.

6. The meet motel this year will be the Red Lion. The Red Lion is located at 200 North Riverside Ave in Medford, Oregon. Their phone number is: (541) 779-5811. The room rate is $78 per night for two plus 10% tax. Two queen size beds are included. 20 rooms have been set aside for the group. Deadline for making reservations at the Red Lion is August 28, 2007. When calling for reservations be sure to tell the person on the phone that you are part of the “Junkyard Dog” tour. Motel reservations are on your own.

7. The meet headquarters will again be Mrs. Q’s Home Cookin’. The restaurant is located at 1124 Court Street in Medford, Oregon. We will meet at Mrs. Q’s each morning for breakfast and then start the day’s activities from there after a short meeting in the rear parking lot as we have done in the past.

More updates here on this forum as they occur so check this site out regularly.

Hi Ya Mike!

Unfortunately, there won't be a "next year". We are down to doing this every other year.......and even then we are playing it by ear since we have been doing this since 1987.

:(

Due to prior commitments the Antique Mechanic and Jim Schoffstoll will be forced to miss this years tour. Falls too close to the National 6-cylinder tour. We have already paid our money and reservations are made. Catch you next time around.

The 2005 tour was well worth the dollars for me and this itinery looks even better.

For those attending the Junkyard Dog Adventure this year, here is another updated tour schedule. The first two tours on Saturday morning were swapped with each other for a better time application. By the way, we previewed the tour to Brammo Motorsports in Ashland today to see the "Ariel Atom" and the state-of-the-art manufacturing facility is totally cool, and the "Ariel Atom" track race car that is made there is awesome. The tour to Brammo Motorsports will definitely be one of the highlight tours of the three days without a doubt! This is one tour you won't want to miss.....and the company management is definitely going to let everyone attending view their complete facility and watch these hand made special order cars being manufactured on the production line.

For those attending the Junkyard Dog Adventure from out of the area here is an update on the motel:

Due to total unrealistic contract demands we have canceled all of the rooms at the Red Lion, the meet motel that is listed above. Instead of mentioning the "Junkyard Dog Tour" when you call just reserve your room as you normally would. Remember though that the 20 rooms are no longer set aside, however, the motel is a very large facility (including a restaurant and etc.) so there should not be any problems in reserving a room for the Junkyard Dog Tour.

:) wink

Hey Jack! Yes, you are definitely one of the 30 dudes registered and locked in for the annual Junkyard Dog Adventure this year. Looking forward to having you attend. Be prepared to put in some long hours and drink lots of beer (or other nourishing liquids) as well.

For all of you dudes that have signed up we are working on the final plans now, and firming up all of the tours. One or two tours may change between now and then, but don't know for sure yet. Also, for those of you that attended the last Junkyard Dog Adventure and have asked, yes "Miss Junkyard Dog" will be on hand again to greet everyone each morning at Mrs. Q's. What a way to start the day!!

See you all in September.

Thanks to 1931 Sal we have another motel update for the Junkyard Dog Adventure this year. Apparently the Red Lion in Medford, Oregon has raised their rates considerably since we last talked to them earlier in the year. The room rates were $78 plus a 10% tax. However, as of today the room rates for two adults are now $99.95 per night for the first two nights and $90.95 per night for the second two nights. That is the senior discount rate and that does not include the 10% tax. Non-senior rates are around $119.95 per night. The Red Lion is an extremely nice motel/convention center complex, however we feel that those rates are a little excessive.

For those attending the meet this year who may want cheaper rates we have located a backup motel. It is Motel 6 and it is located at 2400 North Biddle Road in Medford, Oregon. Phone: (541) 779-0550. The motel has just been remodeled and it is fairly close to Mrs. Q's which will be the meet headquarters each morning. The room rates are $57.41 (tax included) for two adults, and the rooms include two queen size beds. It is a big motel and at present they have many rooms available.

If you have already made your reservations at Red Lion and you prefer the much cheaper rates at Motel 6, you still have time to cancel at the Red Lion and confirm a room at Motel 6.

wink :)

The three-day Junkyard Dog Adventure starts tomorrow morning. A big "WELCOME" to those that are already here from Washington, Oregon, California, Missouri, Kansas and Connecticut. Your tour leaders have some really cool tours planned for you (including a surprise tour as well) and, without a doubt, you dudes will be very busy for the next three days!

Thanks guys! Heading out in about a half an hour to meet the 30 dudes that are attending the three day adventure. This year we have a bus for everyone to ride in for the tours which will help to keep the car pooling to a minimum. Sure helps on the parking problems at each stop. On Friday night the hosted barbecue is going to be catered. We will be having Shish Kabob and lots of beer......and it is all free! How can ya beat a deal like that? bigl bigl

Day one ended at around 9:00 PM last night. On all of the tours of the day the lead car was a 1958 Buick followed by several other vehicles, a bus carrying many of the Junkyard Dog Puppies and a motorhome from Kansas.

To start out the day a group photo was taken with "Miss Junkyard Dog" at Mrs. Q's Restaurant in Medford. After that we all departed and toured the Medford, Oregon area and we saw a lot of dynamite stuff. Our last stop was at "Sutton On The Rogue" which is a big ranch on the world famous Rogue River. The site there, including all of the collectible iron, was something to behold! Of course last night several of the "puppies" gathered together for pizza and beer and to discuss the day's activities. Today is day number two and we have a lot more things to see.

Billy Boy Barker hopefully will post some more information and photos if he can find a hook up for his computer!

Day two of this three day adventure is now concluded. What a great day it was too! The Junkyard Dogs and their puppies saw some fabulous stuff today, including a 1910 Maxwell sitting in a dude's living room! To finish off the day the gang, on their last stop, visited a brand new 8,000 square foot, two-story garage that contained an unbelievable inventory of new old stock (in the original boxes), Chevrolet parts from the 1930's through the 1970's. The collection includes bumpers, sheet metal, mouldings, truck racks, sidemount tire covers, grilles, hubcaps and wheel covers, clocks, tire locks, hood ornaments, tail lights, heaters, grille guards, bumper tips, and tons of other accessories. You name it and it is here. All of the Junkyard Puppies went nuts when they saw this awesome collection of goodies....which were purchased from Chevrolet dealerships from around the country for the past 35 years.

Also included in the collection were Chevrolet dealership signs, banners, posters, and other great collectibles. After everyone was through drooling, a hosted catered dinner was served with all of the trimmings, including soda pop and beer!

As an update, Billy Boy Barker is still trying to find a satellite link for his computer so that he can post some photos of the past two days on Chevy Chatter II. Hopefully he will be successful tonight.

Tomorrow starts day three..........

wink :)

Well, the good news is that I finally made it online.. but the bad news is that I can't get the photos to save properly.

I've been fighting dragons for the past two days. You see, the JYD nightquarters for us who traveled in, is at a MOTEL 6 without internet connection!!! So we've tried a zillion ways to get connected.

On our way home tonight at 8 pm, my co-pilot Helgy and I sat outsided a Starbucks for 40 minutes trying to use their wireless connection -- without paying for it... ha! We didn't succeed.

We almost drove back up the freeway to the last REST AREA because we noticed that they advertised "free WiFi" there... wow!

So.. instead, we just collected over 200 photos and burned them to a CD so that we can give them to Skipper tomorrow when we go to breakfast at the "official headquarters" of the tour, MRS Q'S.

Unless we sober up and... oops.. figure out a better way tomorrow, then you'll have to wait until Monday to see some photos... Sorry, I just wasn't prepared for Dial Up. Arghhh!!!! I don't know how you guys do it this way any more... Wow.. my hat's off to you. chevy
