On a 37 sedan is there supposed to be lace around the whole door or just around the garnish moulding area.I can't seem to find any good pictures that show that area of the door.I know it goes around the door opening and On the door I can see some nail holes behind the window moulding but I can't see any evidence any lower than the moulding.
Thanks

The windlace goes around the opening except for the bottom. There is a thin bead of lace that goes around the garnish moulding.

So what do I use around the door? Same lace as around the opening but with just smaller bead?
Thanks

I sent you a private email asking if you would like me to send pictures and I never heard from you. If you would like pictures of the windlace around the door, just let me know. Beamer

There is nothing around the door except the small bead around the garnish moulding. The only windlace is around the body opening.

I thought I answered that in a previous post. The bead is about the size of fender welt but is covered with a material that looks like the wind lace.If necessary you could take the material off of some wind lace and wrap it around some fender welting

Tim, I sent you a bunch of photos re the rear arm rest a little earlier today and just now sent another bunch showing the windlace used around the window behind the garnish moulding. It is not the traditional windlace but several layers of hard cardboard covered with upholstery material. The replacements in a Hampton kit are a single ply of hard cardboard the thickness of the original multiple ply. I sent some photos of those too. I have an original car and there is nothing at the bottom of the garnish moulding. That fits right up against the door panel. Keep in mind my car is a '38 and a '37 might be just a little different. When you talk about the windlace around the door, are you speaking of the door opening in the car body, actually inside the car body? If you are, that is trimmed out with a single long piece of regular windlace. Let me know if you did not receive the photos. Beamer

Beamers description is correct.I was thinking of a different car.The material is the same mohair as the door panels. The verticle portion is very narrow, and the top is about three times as wide.I am sure that is what his picture shows.

Tim, You're welcome. If you need any others or if you would like to have any I sent you enlarged for clarity, just let me know. Helping others at these restorations is part of what the hobby is all about, or should be at least. Gene, The piece we are talking about that goes around three sides of the window and is covered by the garnish moulding is actually the same width all the way around. It is just that what is exposed after the moulding is put on is as you say, very narrow on the vertical but wide on the top (horizontal). Beamer

On my original 1939 just the very edge can be seen on the sides and about 1/4" is exposed on the top. When the door is closed the top exposed portion is covered by the body opening windlace. The only (poor) picture I can find withthe door open is in the 1938 Engineering book - page 13,The mohair above the garnish mldg. can be seen.
