Where did they fit the aerial for the 34 radio on an open top (roadster)?

Closed cars for 34 came from the factory with an antenna installed in the roof as did the 33 cars. All the radio publications stated that all cars had antennas installed at the factory. This last statement must have been taken to task as a CHEVROLET SERVICE BULLETIN dtd Mar 7, 1933 is devoted to instructions on INSTALLATION OF THE OPEN CAR ANTENNA. The instructions are quite specific on how to install the antenna in the drill cloth top. Even the specific routing of the lead-in wire is specified. The bulletin is #15-CA-37 :)

I'm having nightmares if the stitching has to be undone on the Top as I've just had it made.
Let me know if you service radios, as I look like buying one from the US, but I'd think the best way to go is to have it serviced before shipping out here.

Hi Steve, I have sent you a copy of the antenna instructions and a copy of one of my articles on the 34 Chevrolet radios. This is not intended to be a commercial, but yes, I do service/restore Chevrolet car radios.  From the pictures you sent, that is a very nice 34, that I'm sure you are very proud of. :)

Hello guys,
I just wnted to let you know there is an alternative to having the radio serviced in the US. A car radio from that era is no different than a regular, in home radio so all you have to do is find an antique radio club and ask them who could help you repair your radio. I have discovered that there are millions of radio nuts out there who would love to take a look at an old car radio. It's very probable there is someone near you who can do the repairs.

You are partly correct. Most radio repair shops that do antique radios don't want to work on the auto radios. To do so they must be equipped with a controllable power supply. Then they must have parts that are unique to the car radio. Most problems with car radios are in the power supply. All these parts are unique. However, you are correct, if it involves shipping from here to there, take a look locally. :o

I wouldn't even try to take it to a radio repair shop. I'm trying to restore an old car but I don't operate a dealership. The antique radio guys I'm talking about are collectors, people who work on trying to restore old radios. The radio guys I have run across had adjustable voltage systems, for the 6v, special antenna tunning setups, and a lot of equipment for repairing and restoring the older sets, all in their basements. You won't find them in a phone book but you can find them through clubs and you can ask for guys who specifically know car radios, most seem to.
The power supply for a car radio is the car, with the exception of the transformer the rest of the radio is pretty much the same as any other radio. Antique Electric Supply of Tucson, AZ has a catalogue with standard tube groups for early radios and all the capacitors you may need. I bought complete sets of new tubes for my car radio and my other house radios at a discount.
