I am interested in any one who has a constructive suggestion on judging.

With the proported 75 attendees at the recent left coast meet Judging School, I would have thought more responses to judging would have been posted.

I'm not part of the "in crowd" in VCCA, I am just a guy who enjoys old Chevys. Just being on the outside looking in, I get the impression there is some "politics" or "inner circle" I am not privy to. That's good! I don't have to watch what I say because I don't know who I am offending... I guess.

If judging is a big problem, get rid of it all together. I think it would be a shame to do that and believe the mission of VCCA would be deminished. We need to perserve the cars and the hobby....and have fun while we are at it.

Just call me "Roadster" You all have a great day!

I hate to disagree with you Roadster, but if you are a current dues paying member of VCCA you are considered in the "In crowd",at least by me. What do you consider a member of the "in crowd" to be if you think you aren't in it now?
I am not really active in the "judging" part of the hobby, I favor the touring part more.

I have attended the VCCA Judging school and enjoy reading the judging handbook and the Judging Form and I have a lot of interest about the process, and many of our members enjoy the whole process, there is no need to throw it out, it would be kinda' like throwing the baby out with the bathwater. (IMHO)

I'm going to sit back and see where this goes, then I'm going chip in my two cents.

As to the Judging school at the northwest meet, I think it was great. It also helped to explain a few things for me. Also one of the best parts of the meet was getting to judge Don's 32. Also found something wrong with it to, but not as much as last year.

Hey Brucie! Isn't that a major thing that a car owner wants to do? Improve his car from one meet to the next? You have to have something to work from, It looks to me that a judging form from the last meet would be as good as a road map!
I bet Old Donald is much more knowledgeable than last year, (even tho he still uses a Model "T" crank)...unless CRS kicked in at the wrong time! Ha!ARF! ARF!

Hey Mr Mack!

You right! That is what I'm planning on doing with my 32 when it is done. That is the real reason for Judging. Not the awards! That is at least the way I look at it. I would have to say Don's car is most likely the nicest 32 on the west coast if not the best in the US. And does it drive nice, did I tell you that Don let me drive it! Cool! And the only reason his is really close to being the best is because he took the judging sheet and fixed the things that were wrong. Now I still found one thing and let me tell you, that was hard.

I would really like to see where this goes before I really start saying what I think.

Yes, Brucie, now if we could just find him a proper coil, crank and some NOS air for his tires!

To find that original air from the thirties would be great, But actually going to the judging school was a well worth thing for me and all the others who attended. I myself have not done my car restoring to see how many trophies could be won, But to see how well I could restore the car to original. Just like the junkyard dogs 30 chassis that he has restored, He has done It as close to original as possible. I think everyone would like to do their cars as best as possible, Just that some go a little farther then others In the restoration.Everyone does It a little different. Our two hours at the judging field of nineteen cars, Included alot of standing around and talking about the cars, As the judging process did not take a long time to do.I think mingling with others and talking about the cars was fun and the actual Judging Is only one part of the meet, Touring, Showing of each others cars, And the friendship with everyone, Is what the meets are all about. The bottom line about judging, So what If your car Is not perfect and has things wrong, Go to the judging field and have your car judged, The things they may find wrong gives you a chance to correct and just maybe you will find It to be fun. That Is what It Is all about, Fun and the friendship with others. chevy chevy chevy chevy chevy chevy chevy

So is no one going to talk about the Judging School and Judging at the NW Meet?

Bruce, What are your thoughts about VCCA Judging. Did you find the judging school a worthwhile class and did you find going to the judging field and judging cars to be a fun part of a meet? chevy chevy

The thing I have found hard about making corrections is that in all the years I have had our '31 judged it stays within about fifteen points but is almost always something different.

I believe the best thing to do is go by a parts book of the year of the vehicle, not a '29 - '54, for example. The Service News is also a good source of information.

I have heard many times on the judging field that so and so says it should be like this. This is part of the in croud. The printed Chevrolet material is what we should judge by.

See you down the road.
